Finally my Sony DRX-500UL has started to constantly burn coasters. I dont know what the problem is, I havent got past 30% and I get a burn error with Nero. (I'm burning data DVD's)

I tried taking it apart and cleaning it, it still reads dvd's and cd's just fine, just dosent burn anything.

Is it time for me to buy a new burner or is there anything else I should try?

What brand of media do you use? Try running the name of the manufactuer through this forum, and see what turns up. There are a couple of relatively inexpensive brands which have had quality problems on multiple brands of DVD Recorders.

Before you send the unit to the graveyard, buy a single high quality recordable media disk (generally one of the most expensive you can find) and try that. It just maybe the recording media's fault.
