[bold] it errors out saying there is not enough room on the disk. Now I think it means my hard drive, since it hasn't even gotten to the burn stage yet.[/bold] Nope it means disc. You must set your destination to your HD. 12g's is plenty of room on your HD. [bold]I even tried just sending the file to the hard drive and then going back to burn it in a separate session, but DVD Encryptor does not recognize the file type or something.[/bold] Do you mean DVDDecrypter? IF so rip in FILE mode to your HD> then use those files to go in your app that your using(in this case shrink). With shrink you shouldn't have to use decrypter, but every once in a while shrink won't rip, then use decrypter.Decrypter can't burn a file over 4.37, you must re-author and/or compress 1st with another app. Shrink will do this, if you re-author in shrink you will lose your menu function. [bold] An ISO file is the wrong type, and the VIDEO_TS won't open - doesn't even display in a list of "All supported files" when I browse that directory.[/bold] Decrypter will only burn iso files. I have no idea where your VIDEO_TS files are coming from. You can set shrink to auto burn with nero, you never have to open the program up. If you don't have nero, you can get a trial version here at AD for 30 days. Shrink by default is set to burn with nero. If you wish to check it, click edit> preferences> fileI/O> enable burning with nero. Your info is sketchy at best, it would really help if I knew what you're doing step by step. Here is a shrink guide in AD, it will also tell you how to burn with Nero. oops, sorry, here ya go http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm Scuba Pete also has a newbie guide here in AD that works well, you can look it up in the links, I'm hittin' the sack. Right click on your drive and select Properties. The File system should show NTFS or FAT 32. You will get this error if you are using DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to write ISO Disc Image files on a FAT 32 Hard Disk Drive. There is a 4GB limit on file sizes on FAT 32 and ISO Disc Images are usually bigger than that. If you use Shrink in file mode you will not have this problem. Windows XP/2000/NT can use NTFS, FAT 32 or FAT file systems. Windows 98/ME can only use FAT 32 or FAT file systems. Versions of Windows that can use NTFS have a built in converter or you can use Partition Magic. One of the biggest problems when people make a upgrade from Win98-ME to WinXP is they skip the part at the beginning where there is the option to convert their drives from FAT or FAT32 to NTFS before installing WinXP. NTFS file system is what you should be using on XP. The only reason to continue to use a FAT or FAT32 file system is if you are also running another OS like Win98-ME or Linux on that computer. Even after installing WinXP you can convert your FAT or FAT 32 drives to NTFS. Open Help and Support and search for Convert NTFS to get complete directions. Example: Click Start - Run and type. Convert C: /FS:NTFS Before you make the conversion to NTFS. It is a good idea to both defragment the drive and run a error check fixing both file system errors and recovery of bad sectors. Right click on your drive and select Properties and these options are on the Tools tab.
Ultimos: An easy combo to use is Nero Recode 2 + AnyDVD,AnyDVD is useful to have running in the background anyway as it makes burns region free, also your DVD drive can play movies from any region & copy encrypted CD,s as well. ispy
I think you've nailed it, veblin: I did upgrade this year to XP and the drive does say it's FAT32. THANK YOU! I will proceed to try to convert, and then try to rip again. However, I also tried Shrink in file mode; it had no problem putting files on the drive, but it actually creates multiple files in a VIDEO_TS directory, and then I couldn't get DVDDecryptor to "see" the files. That what I was trying to say when I reported that when I go into DVDDecryptor and try to choose a file it can't find any supported files in that directory. I'll try converting before I try anything else.
Hey Wendy, remember, decrypter can rip in file, but it can only burn in ISO. I use file mode to rip all my dvd's, but I don't burn with decrypter, I use Nero. Again, you should be able to rip with shrink, and skip decrypter unless you're using another app. Do you have Nero? Nero Ultra 6 is the best all around package there is. It has a TON of useful programs, both in video and audio. Eagletronics has it for 49.00 right now, it retails for 99.00. That is a steal. You really owe it to yourself to get it. Unfortunately the trial doesn't include recode or nerovision express, two of it's best programs.
Thank you everybody - I'm in business now! Changing from FAT32 to NTFS did the trick, and I'm backing up just fine now. And I took everyone's advice and ordered Nero 6 as well - got that good deal that bigorange told me about from EagleTronics. I sure appreciate everyone's input.
