sorry...am at work....usually keep caps on...and i noticed last nite...have commentaries on the burned dvd...with no sound....lol
and i noticed last nite...have commentaries on the burned dvd...with no sound....lol Just use edit > preferences > stream selections and choose english from the two drop down menus, shrink will then automatically keep only english audio and subpicture tracks and you don't have to do any more editing in either.
That means you are using 35% compression which isn't bad if you use the new quality settings. I would NEVER use that much compression without them. I always raise compression on all the extras I keep to about 40% (which shows 60% in shrink), thus reducing compression on the movie itself even more. Then I still use the quality settings even tho it will raise your backup time to 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Well worth the extra time IMHO.
you are very helpful, and i appreciate it when i click on the left..the "+" sign next to say..extras....on the right i can manually move the compression bar to say 30%, and that is only for the extras, nothing else?
bklyn1028, When you click on extras, then on the top right you can choose from the drop down menu to custom compress and compress ALL extras at once even more. If you click on the + sign you will see each file in the extras from which you can then custom compress each individual extra one at a time. You can also preview them in the window below. You can also eliminate all of them at once or just some of them by choosing the still image substitution in the same drop down menu on the top right. The purpose of this is so the menu still works even if you remove some extras. This is all explained in the guide above. The best way to do it is to get your feet wet, play around with it and then see what you still don't understand. Let me know what happens :>) BTW, in answer to your question, lol, whatever you click on, that's all that the compression bar or still image option affects.
Hi bklyn1028, Here's a little something to help get you started, To trim your movie a little, you can "un-tick" audio you don't want like the foreign audio streams, i.e. Outer Mongolian, Klingon Slobber-Jaw or Eastern Himalayan Yak language selections or even the Director's comments. This will result in your DVD requiring less compression and a better quality picture. If you would like, as I do, to get rid of all the extras and trailers thus compressing your movie as little as possible (giving you the best quality picture), click "Re-author" then, under "Main Movie" select "Title 1" If there are more choices, look at the time and select the longest one as that is usually the main attraction. Click and drag the "Title 1" from the right-hand side of the screen to the left-hand side, under the "DVD Structure" (DVD) and release it there. Bingo, Bango, you are done editing, giving you the least compression (best quality), backup possible. Now select "Backup" to get ready to finish. DO NOT CLICK ON FULL DISC OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR EDITING. Now, if it's QUALITY you're after and have some extra time to spend, "tick" Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality" AND "tick" "Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation." There you may adjust quality enhancements. Practicing with the settings can produce even better end products. For a no-frill DVD's like "There's something about Mary" I like Extra Smooth BUT for DVD's with a lot of special effects, like Matrix Reloaded or The Day after Tomorrow, I use the Extra Sharp setting. That's for me, you'll have to decide what you like If all the boxes are "grayed out" that's OK, it means your DVD is small enough that little will be lost from the original. Finish the settings on the General tab and burn to disc - Cheers, Pete
god damn this is hard work... i've been downloading movies... but when i try to burn it it says its not supported... wth is going on.. and i finally purchesed some DVD+R's and RW's... how do i convert .ifo to .avi or whatever shrink allows me to use?
Some may think of it as work, I think of it as fun :>) Anyway, Most DVD backup apps only handle DVD compliant files. If they are downloaded files they have to be converted before apps like shrink, etc. can use them.. One of the reasons I like NVE, it does it all including creating menus, because D/L files are movie only with no way to navigate the DVD. You could try NVE(NeroVisionExpress). It will allow you you to convert the files(It also converts faster than most of the other file conversion apps), add more than one file, create a custom menu for your compilation so you can navigate and go to any file you wish, set chapters, compress, and burn to DVD all in one app. It even has a software remote control with which to preview your work and make sure it works and allows you to make any changes you wish before you burn to disc. It comes in the Nero Ultra 6 suite, an entire suite of audio and video programs which you can use for free each and every month for the entire month til you decide to buy(which I highly recommend). You must reinstall it each month and then you are good to go for that month. If you wish I have a simple NVE guide I wrote I can give you if you decide to try it. It is one of the easier authoring apps of this type to use.
and yes i would like to try it so i can convert these movies and then delete them off my comp its slowing down... i've downloaded dozens of movies...
dammit.... just when i thought it was good.... it backed up and everything and then it formatted my disc and then it said it was an illegal disc... whats that mean and then this popped up... Nero Startsmart is the nero ultra 6, it runs about 59-79.00 depending where you get it. NVE is one of it's programs. You must load and install Ultra 6 update packs 1-6, except pack #3,InCD, it can cause problems and unless you use packet writing software you don't need it. I would try it free before I bought it to see if you like it, tho I'm sure you will. It has tons of audio and video programs.
Hmmm....you must have posted just before I did. I see you have nero, but you need to update it to version 6.6, you have 6.3. Let me look at your log and I'll get back to ya. I'm gonna be checking out college football today(going to a game), so it will probably be tomorrow before I get back,OK?
It looks like you're trying to write too much to disc, since you don't have a DL disc and gave it a rewriteable, it formatted your disc to make more room for what you were trying to feed it - It was looking for "overburn" and you didn't have it - BTW, converting your DL files to anything usable is going to take a whole lot of time - be ready to do it AND - LET YOUR PC ALONE WHILE IT'S RENDERING FILES Unless you want a ton of coasters to replace your DL movies - Cheers, Pete Bigorange, let me know if you saw what I did in his log - I'm still fighting my way through Nero's logs -
I used DVD shrink, but i dont really know how to use and i did manage to burn a working DVD menu and everything NVE works wonders... i love it... but i tried to do it again with regular DVD+R Disc... and it wont work... whats going ill tell u what it says one sec.... It says: This Disk is not writable Please Insert a writable disk Note: You will need to transcode again if you cancel the the recording now unless you change the data project after wards. Its a DVD+R its the right kinda and it is a verbatim... what could be the problem let me try and use another disk...
okay i tried it again... but at this rates coasters wont even happen if these damn discs wont upload... i spet 150 dollars on DVD+R's they better become coasters than empty discs lol... is this because of nero or what?... lol sorry if i sound so demanding why cant burning a dvd be a 1-2-3 step process sheeeesh.. -=D thanks for your help again guys
As if the worst was over... why cant i erase my DVD+RW...? I used nero to try and do it but the disk kept popping out of the drive... and the full erase didnt finish it did 2 seconds of it... and my dvd+rw doesnt wanna burn i got that log file saved so if u want it tell me... thanks
TxDuB, As good as Nero is, it sometimes get's an "atitude" - Let's try an erase using DVD Identifier - Besides erasing discs it's a super proggy for checking discs and drives - http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Let us know how that works, we may have to uninstall Nero then reinstall it to get it to work properly - Pete
Okay i'll give that a try but why wont my Verbatims burn... do you know why? they're the right kind of DVD+R's and when i try it it doesnt work and i know im probably getting annoying but thanks for your help
