So, I just read about AVCHD, and have been trying to study up on it, and figure out how to get it working on my PS3. I wanted to do this because I hear that the PS3 can play AVCHD DVD's, and my dad's Blu-Ray Player supports them as well. Now I just had a problem. I tried using TsMuxer to convert a video file that I had (I guess I had to use MKV2VOB to convert it from mkv to a mpeg), and when I played it in the PS3, it recognized it and played it, but the bottom of the screen was green. It seemed like it may not have been 720p, but I don't know if it had something to do with TsMuxer or not? Another problem I had, was I got .iso's of Band of Brothers, that was AVCHD, by PS3AvchD, and after burning it to a DVD-5, I tried playing it in my PS3, but just sat at a blank screen? When I tried on my Dad's Blu-Ray player, it would get to the menu, but once you clicked play, it would be blank screen! So, I don't know if I'm burning it wrong, or if the Blu-Ray players have to be set to something? Or maybe I have the term AVCHD wrong? I thought it was so you could play High Def movies from a DVD-5/DVD-9 on a Blu-Ray Player? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
About your first problem, in order to make a BD/AVCHD compliant disc you must have a proper resolution, which is 1920x1080, 1440x1080, or 1280x720 or you'll get the green bars. In your case I'm willing to bet the res was something like 1280x588, or something close to that. To fix your problem you need to recode/resize the video. Use either MeGUI/AviSynth or Ripbot264. I'm not sure if that applies with .iso's, that's how BDs/AVCHDs must be burned when working with the structure (rather than .iso).
Thanks for the help! Ya I tried another DVD to see if that one would play, and I was getting the same problem on my PS3. I went and tried it on my Dad's blu-ray Player (which is a Panasonic DMP-BD30), and it worked flawlessly! It got to the menu, and actually played through the Movie, in HD. Yea, for the movies I was using UDF 2.50, and that's what I figured about the Green Bar. I thought it wasn't 720p Res, but it was still better then SD. So I don't know why my PS3 would be having so much trouble with it?! I converted another video file, and burned that one, and it played on the PS3. Also, an .iso of a different movie played too, but it didn't look HD. So maybe the Band of Brothers iso's are having problems!
Don't delete the BoB iso's, get a virtual drive (Slysoft has a free one) extract the A/V streams, remux and burn. The problem was most likely how they were put together.
Sort of, the A/V streams are in the m2ts container... which is the file used on a Blu-ray. Use tsMuxeR and remux to Blu-ray, remember this will only work if you have the proper resolution. Then burn the BDMV and Certificate folders using the UDF 2.5 system. Also, the PS3 will play the m2ts files as-is... regardless of the resolution. The only catch is no susbtiles, and only AC3 or PCM audio will work (not DTS). Also there is no file size restriction on the PS3's HDD.
Ok I'll try that! Also, I was reading on the tutorial for converting .mkv's to AVCHD, and it said that if the files were a little too big, you could do something like compressing the DTS into AC3? I looked around, and I couldn't find anything about compressing it. Because I've got some 720p mkv files and they are maybe 200MB larger then a DVD5. And I would rather use a DVD5, then use a DVD9 for a 4.73GB file.
That package should include a program called eac3to, use that app. There should be a GUI for it call eac3toGUI, if not just google it.
When you use anydvd, dvdfab decrypter convert from HD/Blu-Ray to dvd do you lose the HD or does it change it to DVD?
I've been experimenting burning ACVHD (blu-ray on dvd-r) discs with the procedure of using tsMuxer and ImgBurn to manipulate .mkv HD video (H264 & AC3files) into these discs that are suppose to be playable on many stand-alone BD players and all PS3 consoles. The results are interesting. When I insert these discs in my BD enabled Sony Vaio laptop up comes the BD playing softwear just like you'd expect. Without a menu it starts immediately and will play in loops if you don't stop it. That's all good, but I've noticed a slight wavering of the audio sync. I call it wavering because it seems to get a bit worse and then gets better and seems to repeat the worse/better situation. I really cannot say what it causing this anomaly. The original files don't seem to have any sync problem whatsoever. Any ideas as to how this can be prevented? My other interesting observation is that these discs won't play in either a Samsung or a Sony BD stand-alone player. I kind of figured the disc would not play in my Samsung BD-UP5000 as Samsung removed any compatibility with ACVHD discs prior to introducing this model. I think the minute it sees it as Blu-Ray format on a DVD-R it clamps down and won't play. Thanks Samsung...Way to punish the customer. More curious is the fact I took my disc to Wal-Mart and tried it on the $299 Sony BD stand-alone player. A message something like: "This operation prohibited by disc" popped up on the screen and it was a no go as well. I really thought this would play on the Sony. The video was a 1080p movie clip. Unfortunately, the PlayStation 3 which was immediately beside the Sony BD player and Sony LCD wasn't hooked up to play. It was the only PS3 displayed in the huge Wal-Mart store and it wasn't hooked up! Incredible! So, I am wondering about the audio sync and the fact that these discs don't seem compatible with a newer Sony BD player. Perhaps they'd play fine on a Panasonic or the PS3, but I can't currently check that. I'm the only one experiencing these problems?
I used dvdshrink files in tsMuxerGUI. It converteed them but did not play on my sony bd player. I tried it on my computer and it worked great. I figured if it would convert it would work on a bd player.Oh well I have to wait and trr a blu-ray movie I hope the are the same price as dvd's or at least close. Oh! the the disc would loop at a fast rate.
