burning copy protected dvds

Hey Scuba,
You mean to tell me I can rent a movie and back it up. I told you in another post how I had backed up every dvd I owned as well as all my kids dvds. Well this just made my day. I'm off to the store to get somemore dvds, PDQ. Thanks for all the help Pete.LOL.

This may sound like a dumb question, but if I copy a backup copy (not the original) that has some read errors, will the new copy have the same errors? The reason is that I don't have the original anymore.

That said, what is the best/easiest way to check whether your disk has any errors after burning? The only two ways I know how to check are to run it through DVDInfoPro or watch the entire movie. Thanks to anyone who can answer!

 

those two ways are as good as any.

If you copy a copy with read errors, then certainly the copy will have them. It's like anything else, it can only use what the source gives it.

 

Hi Newfee,

There is a third way, run it through DVD Decrypter. It will show you if you have read errors and allow you to either work through them ("Retry") or to "Ignore" them.

If they aren't important and you've ignored them your backup copy will be without them.

I won't be home for a few days so I can't test it, but what way is the fastest to check?

Also, if I ignore errors, will I be able to watch the new copy on my DVD player?

Can touching the blank disk on the bottom (eg, fingerprints) affect the copy?

 

Okay - my boys - I did it! I burned a DVD!!

I have to say I felt very guilty though as i had to say I did not live in the united states in order to download....

I assume this is okay as I burned my husband's CD for him!!??

Now he is not certain he will have access to power so now we are back to CD's. But I now know what to do - thanks to the two of you!!!

After reading all your posts, I just have to say that your husband must be one of the happiest guys on earth. The lengths you go to to please him are way above and beyond the call of duty. You should be eligable for the CMH. I wish my wife was half as eager to please me but that is another story. I want to wish your husband a safe tour and a happy and hopefully quick return. I'm just wondering where he'll stow all them DVD's in his gear.

How do u know what media ur using?
i used dvd shrink and decrypter with one dvd burnt it nice but with a different dvd the whole thing f***ed up and i wasted a disc

Big Orange and ScubaPete say the media is very important. You may find you can use a few out of a pack of 10 of a cheap brand but you will be able to use 10 out of 10 if you buy good. I learned the hard way with 3 coasters right off the bat. Read previous posts about which brand they recommend. Good Luck!

No.1-Media is EXTREMELY important. DL a little freebie called dvdinfopro, it will analyze drives, media, and several others. It is a VERY handy tool that I keep on my desktop.

No.2-Meritine is a very reputable comapany with an excellent return policy, get Ritek G04 4x -R or Ridata 4x +R. Make sure they are branded, this is very important, make SURE they have it stamped on the disc!

You can get them for under .45 ea. w/free shipping. Good media doesn't necessarily mean expensive. Good luck!

[bold]newfee[/bold], if the copy played, then your copy will play even if it has errors. They depend on what they are and how many, etc.

Also, fingerprints definitely affect your discs. Try to avoid touching at all costs! The oils from your skin will affect it over time.

I like to set my size on the disc for my burns at 4280 or 4300 so as not to burn to the very edge of the disc, that way mis-handling won't affect it as much if you do by chance get "sticky" fingers on it.

Sorry I just skipped to the end from the beginning but I wantedt to shre this little bit of information with those who were having trouble burning at the beginning.

I'm running Windows XP and before my burner would work porperly I had to go into properties, select recording and simply check allowing CD recording with this drive (XP still refers to it as CD recording even thou it's a DVD burner). After doing that my burner recording problems went away.

 

does anyone know whats up with this i have made a 1:1 image of my pc game with alcohol and mounted it with Daemon but im still getting "Please verify that your Frozen Throne disc is on your CD-ROM, then click on 'Retry'.
the game is Warcraft III:Frozen Throne
its got secuRom *new* 4.8 protection on it

 

I am trying to backup the DVD "Taking Lives". With DVDShrink I get a "cyclic redundancy error", unable to read drive D:. So I tried to rip it with decrypter and at 83% I get a file I/O error and was unable to go any further. Anyone have ideas as how to rip this DVD?

Not 100% sure, but whenever I get that error all I do is clean the disk and I can then burn it. The only times I've ever gotten "cyclic redundancy" error are when the discs are scratched or dirty.

Touching the bottom of your disc isn't the end of the world - I don't have proper use of my hands so I'm the Fingerprint King! Getting your prints on the recording side generally has no adverse effects (unless you don't ever wash your hands) when playing or burning your discs. As the "Big" "O" mentioned, it does effect the dye over time. So, before putting your discs away you might want to clean it either with a commercial unit (available at "Radio Shack" OR your local electronics store) OR clean the disc thoroughly with a clean cotton cloth moistened with Isopropanol Alcohol, Contact lens cleaner OR in a bind, you may use some Windex (Windex has some additives, coloring and the like). Clean by using a firm even rubbing motion from the center outwards towards the edge and you are good to go

Many times, with cheap media, you'll get a "Cyclic Redundancy error" or an "I/O error". This message can mean that your discs are scratched or dirty, it can also mean that your burner won't accept your "cheap" media :-(

Once again, what media are you using gimpie ?

If it's an original, there are 2 possibilites.

1. The disc is dirty and or scratched. It may be scratched so lightly it's almost impossible to see with the naked eye - NO ! No naked eyeball jokes, PLEASE - and No, the ScubaPete doesn't dress his eye UNLESS I'm going out in public -

2. Your original disc has a flaw on it from the factory. Try to exchange it for another copy. Let's hope the replacement is from a different batch.

Hi all, been reading this forum for quite a while and now finally decided to post..

First of all, i have a question regarding DVD Shrink..
I have backed up numerous DVD's over the past 2 weeks, and no matter how many times i try to back up this one DVD is comes up with the following Error Message: [bold] Copy Protection Error - Read Failed because the sector is encrypted [/bold]
This hasnt happened with any other DVD's and was just wondering if anyone could possibly shed some light on the situation?
