burning copy protected dvds

URGENT- HI THERE. I have all 3 parts of Godfather and I want to put all 3 on one disc. if not all 3 , atleast II and IIIrd. I have DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Can any one please tell me how I can do that.
I have some blank DVD-RW which I might have to use as per my understanding.

I will give my brother a copy of the (ScubaPete) "Guide for DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter" that you posted at the beginning of this thread as he is always calling me up asking "how do I use that DVD Shrink program again?" I have walked him throw it at least 8 or 9 times now and this is a god send. I understand that he is a newbie and all but after explaining the same concept for the 8th or 9th time it dose get a bit old. Thank you.

takenotes, if you send shrink to the hard drive it's not going to burn. You have to select your burner as it's target destination, unless you wish to burn with decrypter, then you choose ISO file and burn with decrypter.

Also this window comes up AFTER you hit backup, under target device along with 4 other tabs-burn settings, quality settings, etc. You should have it after clicking on the drop down menu(where you should have 7 choices) just above temp folder selection.

If you're not getting that option, which version of shrink are you using? It needs to be 3.2, not 3.1 or less.

Also, to burn with decrypter w/ISO you must uncheck the "enable burn with nero" box found in; edit > preferences > file I/O.

If you are doing all these things it should work, if not let me know and we'll take it from there. :>)

jockey, RW's will enable you to keep doing it over and over til you get it right and then you want to burn on an (+) or (-) R.

You can do this with shrink 3.2 and decrypter. You do this by using the re-author mode and be aware that you will lose menu function afterwards and the quality is going to be much worse than putting them on a seperate disc.

These movies have extremely large files and putting 2 on one disc is going to reduce your quality quite a bit, I wouldn't even attempt 3 on one.

Using the new quality settings will offset this somewhat and I recommend the extra smoothness in the AEC setting, but be sure and check both boxes. It will take longer but is well worth it, especially in this situation where it should be required. lol ;>)

Make sure you have enable burn with nero unchecked(see previous post) and check burn with decrypter using ISO files(also see previous post).

My friend denis has written a VERY good interactive guide for this method and I would advise using it, especially if this is your 1st time out trying re-author. Here is the link and good luck...As always, if you have problems holler back. :>)

I do have the latest Shrink & I was thinking about that so I downloaded again & reinstalled what was probably the same version I already had. Same results. The DVD burner is entered as the "destination", & yeah, after hitting "Backup" when I go to the "select backup target " area the "(nero disabled in preferences)" line is there 'cause I unchecked the "enable burn with nero" box before. There's only the 2 options below "select backup target" : below "create ISO Image file" I can select "ISO Image file" or below "create DVD files" I can select "Hard disk folder".
BTW - I'm using a test DVD for this. It's one I copied probably 10 times before with Roxio for friends. It's not a commercial release, not copy protected & doesn't take alot of space. And I always use good blanks like TDK but this problem doesn't let me get that far to start burning. What about DVD Decrypter ? I downloaded that about a month ago, it should be a good version, right?
I'm gonna keep trying to do this.

Uhhhh OOOh, you have roxio? Could very well be your problem. Roxio is well known to cause problems with other dvd software. It is greedy and doesn't like to share, especially if you have Nero, which seems to magnify it's maliciousness.

I would definitely uninstall roxio, in fact there is a tool to help remove it as it doesn't even like to be uninstalled. this will help remove all remnants. Use add and remove in the control panel 1st the use this;

Also, this copy you're using, that could be your problem.

One last thing, if the files are under 4.37 you can rip(read) with decrypter in ISO mode and then burn(write) with decrypter in ISO mode. :>)

 

I heard bad things about Roxio not playing nice with neighbors & that's why I removed it. It was removed completely when the change was made from XP home to XP Pro, hard drives were reformatted. No mo' Roxio.
I've tried more than 1 DVD .

You guys are real champs. While I *am* a n00b (hell, I don't even have a burner yet), I've been reading the forums the last two days from front to back...

I have a real good grasp of copying now, and will be well prepared once my DVD-R arrives. I do, however, have a couple of quick questions. (I plan on using Nero and DVD Shrink in tangent)

1. How long does it take to copy a "normal" DVD?
2. Is the decoding/encoding part done within Shrink or Nero?
3. I'm also assuming that the decoding/encoding part of copying takes the longest amount of time, correct?

You'll need another proggy to maintain quality and menus , it's called DVD2One -

For 2 Discs on 1 use DVD2One in the "Join" mode.
The join mode is a very powerful new feature of DVD2one. It can be used for many things:
Joining a movie that has been spread over 2 sides of a disk (aka "flipper") or even over 2 disks.
Joining of different episodes of a (TV) series on 1 disk.
Adding a music video, documentary or Featurette after the main movie.
Adding an intro (for instance THX or Dolby) before the main movie.
Or any combination of the above possibilities !
The join mode is not limited to only 2 titles, but it can join any number of titles on 1 disk. Of course the total size of the titles you want to join has its limits. DVD2one has built-in warning messages to let you know when you go to far.
The join mode has 2 different modes:
Seamless. The separate titles are joined in 1 titleset, and will play continuously without interruption.
Non-seamless. Each title is put in its own titleset, and there will be a small delay when the player goes from one to the other title.
The seamless mode is the perfect mode for joining a movie that has been spread over different sides or disks. DVD2one will examine automatically whether the different titles can be seamless joined together. For this the video, audio and subtitles need to be the same.

The non-seamless mode will work with any title, and can be used in all other cases. DVD2one provides convenient ways to skip through the different title sets.

How to use
The join mode is very simple to use, since it works like a repeated movie-only mode. After selecting the first title you come to a summary screen. Here you can select another title you like to add to the list, or start processing. If you select to join another title, you will advance through the selection screens again. The only difference is when using seamless mode, you do not have to select audio, subtitle and angle. The selection for these items is taken from the title to which the new title is seamlessly joined.
Advanced Navigation Mode
This new feature is experimental and may not work correctly with specific DVD players, or may have some unwanted side effects. It is recommended to try it first with a re-writable disk. It adds the following ways to navigate between the different title sets:
· Right menu button for next titleset.
· Left menu button for previous titleset.
· Next chapter at the last chapter of a title
goes to the next titleset.
· Previous chapter at the first chapter of a
title goes to the previous titleset.
The menu button system may interfere with subtitles. Also if a titleset does not have subtitles, a dummy subtitle is added to make this feature to work.

Hard to say, lot of variables, your system, your apps, your media/burner and your video files. Anywhere from 20-30 minutes to 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Using quality settings in shrink will double encoding times, but is well worth it if compression is over 10%. Movie length is not necessarily what dictates doing the movie, but how large the movie files actually are.

Actually it can be done in both. Nero has a program called recode 2. It will compress, edit/re-author, and burn. Shrink will rip, edit/re-author,and compress. Either way you need a combo of the two, unless you throw decrypter into the fray. It will rip and burn, but not compress or edit/re-author. Are you beginning to see? You can complete the process with shrink/decrypter, nero/decrypter, or shrink/nero. They all are inter-dependent on the other.

One thing about nero- it is more than just a DVD backup, it has file conversion, PC backup, cover design, audio and video apps, dvd authoring, toolkit,burning engine, etc. etc. etc.

If one has these 3 apps one can do about anything one needs in audio and video work.

LOL, I hope you do too. One hint, Get a couple of RW's to use until you get it down pat, then use your -R's. Be sure to get good media, "branded" Ritek G04 4x -R are a good bet,(one bad disc in over 400 burns). They are a preferred choice of this forum. You can get them at Meritline for under .50 each w/free shipping. Even cheap crappy media can't beat that!

well, i got a new burner and i set it up and everything was fine. the next day not so good. My problem for anybody who has a solution. Anytime i install the burner like new, it works pretty good for a good amount of time. If i turn off the burner and turn it on later to do some more burning, i get a blue screen indicating a problem after it tries to read the dvd.

Its starts by saying, A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER.
RUN A SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC UTILITY SUPPLIED BY YOUR HARDWARE MANUFACTURER. RUN A MEMORY CHECK AND CHECK FOR FAULTY OR MISMATCHED MEMORY. TRY CHANGING VIDEO ADAPTERS.
DISABLE OR REMOVE ANY NEWLY INSTALLED HARDWARE AND DRIVERS. DISABLE OR REMOVE ANY NEW SOFTWARE. FOR SAFE MODE TO REMOVE OR DISABLE COMPONENTS, RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, PRESS F8 TO SELECT ADVANCED STARTUP OPTIONS AND THEN SELECT SAFE MODE.

Now i don't understand what to do here to not have this issue with this burner. I when you first install it, its fine but after that i have issue's unless i uninstall and reinstall and it works again untill i get that error message. If someone can let me know what's wrong or what i can do.

Thanks for the clarification on the processes between the applications; very helpful. This leads me to another question. What is the benefit of using 2-applications in tangent? Why not use Nero 6 for the whole deal? It seems as though Shrink is more of an editor for DVD's... allowing you to cut out unwanted menus and extras, as well as compress the process.

Does Nero have these same capabilities?

 

search, yes nero recode can do what shrink does, however shrink's new quality settings has a better picture overall in my humble opinion.

You need to REREAD my earlier post, you MUST use a combination of two. Nero CAN"T rip. You must use decrypter or shrink for that. Besides, it's always good to have more than one backup system.

I would also advise against burning at 8x, at least until you get a few under your belt. The faster the burn, the more chance for errors. :>)

 

rs2003, in essence you are removing and adding hardware as you turn your burner on and off. You must follow procedure in adding and SAFELY removing hardware. You can cause serious problems with your PC if you don't. That's why you should have a "safely remove hardware" icon in your task bar. Some of my burners don't even have an on/off switch. Refer to your owner's manuel for adding and removing hardware. :>)

 

Good advice O. I remember when "high-speed" CD burning was introduced, it was always best to lower speed...

I'll continue to read through the forums to get a solid base prior to my first burn. I've downloaded and played with the interface of Shrink, and it seems like a briliant proggie (and free!).

There are a lot of advise here about copy right protected DVD here. I want to burn a DVD with some sort of right protection so that it will make copy harder (encrypt?). I know there is always a way to decrypt it. Just want make the copy as hard as possible. I contacted Pinnacle support and get nothing useful. Does any expert here know any encrypter? Where can I get it? Are any other threads or other forums talked about this? Thanks.
