Wcombs9, I'll tell one thing that upsets my good buddy Pete and is against forum rules is using all caps. It is considered rude and shouting and it's harder to read. To use caps to emphasize a word is OK, but please don't use them in entire sentences, OK?

Other than that I don't know of anyone you've upset, we all have to learn sometime and a lot of us are still learning everyday, I know I am...;>)

oukie, For the most part you can't really improve upon the source. Backup apps are designed to match the quality of the source after compressing, or to edit to prevent compression, not improve on it.

BTW, this sounds like a DL' movie, is it? If so quality will never match that of a DVD copy.

Finally to edit a menu DvdReMake is about the best app I know for that. If you edit the menu in shrink you will more than likely lose menu function.

If you want to take out the disabled movie options just use re-author in shrink and burn movie only.

Hey Pete, thanks for the warm regards. I will definitely be one of you guys doing the helping soon!

Ok, now to Flip, BigOrange and of course you Pete.

I have a question that emerged out of my newfound exuberance. Pete, you had recommended that the size setting in Shrink be 4300 to prevent burning to the edge. Can you advise on how I treat movies, then, that are "epic" in length to fit on one disc? What about spanning to 2 discs? Can the software combination of Shrink/Decrypter do that?

On another note, I've had to uncheck the box in DVD Decrypter - Tools, Settings, ISO Write Mode - that says "Lock Volume - Exclusive Access". If I keep the check mark in, I receive the paradoxical error message that Decrypter is not being granted exclusive access to the device. But hey, unchecking the box worked.

Thank you, guys, for all of your continued assistance.

Hi gang. The tips that everyone post are most valuable. Just wondering if anyone can help me with a message that keeps popping up in DVD Shrink V3.2, (I had V3.1 until reading this forum) when I go to back up ;-) a copy of a DVD.
The message reads : DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid DVD Navigation Structure.

    Plllleeeeeeeaaaaaasssseee help me !!!
    Thanks,
    AJ

P.s I tried to copy in DVD Decrypter and got a message that read, CIRC Unrecovered Error - Anyone know anything about that one. Very frustrating when you've copied 99 damn % of a disc.

scubapete- i did what you said and cleaned the original dvd but i still get the same "cyclic redundancy check" error. another problem is when i am using dvd decrypter during this phase

[bold]Got it ? Neato, now lets rip this "puppy" - Under "Mode" select "ISO" then "tick" "Read". Lets "untick" "Verify", this will lessen errors. Where it says, "source", you'll put either your DVD-ROM drive OR the location on your HD where your DL resides. Lastly, where it says "Destination", select the folder we just made where we can work on our project. By doing this, we keep everything on the disc EXACTLY as it is including size.[/bold]

about half way through the phase, 48%-52% decrypter stops working. it retries like a billion times and just gets stuck.

    oukie,

I guess the question is, is it a professional disc OR a semi- type of thing that someone made and is selling locally ?

If it's a "Pressed" job, it might be a manufacturer fault - If it's the latter, it could be a compilation project done on poor media. The combo of the 2 leaves you out in the cold with noithing to do except a "copy disc".

A question, what is the size of the original disc ?

    Let me know,

    Pete

    Shaddy,

For extremely large DVD's feel free to use DVD Shrink in it's default mode.

I recommended tightening things uyp a bit when the discs aren't those we've found to be of a high quality. I also like to have the extra edge because being a "Bumble fingers" and dropping discs from time to time it's possible to tick those edges. With a little extra safety ring., I worry a bit less :)

    Cheers,

    Pete

Does anybody else have a site that has dvd movie labels. I tried cd.covers.cc but it requires software installation that makes me very nervous.

ScubaPete can you make a recommendation you always have great ideas.

    ???????????

tarisea, I know of no software installation you need to download covers. Create a folder and name it(dvd covers for example) right click on the cover and then click on "save picture as" and browse to your folder you created.

You do need a software to use the covers, I use Nero Ultra 6's Nero cover design.

    shaddy, I agre with Pete, I like to leave a little ring at the edge of my discs. Shrink should handle large movies up to 40% compression using the new quality settings. If it's more than that you can;

a)drop some extras using substitute still image feature or,

b)put all extras on one disc and the main movie on another or

c)use re-author and do movie only.

There is another program I use for very large movies and that's DvdRebuilder and CCE Basic. It will do over 50% compression, keep everything and you can't tell the original from the copy.

Set up is a little difficult, but once finished it is a one click operation which takes about 4 hours, but the results are unbelieveable!

CCE Basic costs 58.00, everything else is free and all can be found here in aD including a guide on setup, 2 very big threads dealing with any and all problems, and a host of guys that can help you out should you have any questions....:>)

At 40% on Shrink I'd go for the softer settings.

    Hi tarisea,

I didn't have good luck with CD covers so I use a scanner and Neato labels, have over 1,000 done that way and no problem. HOWEVER, I cannot caution you enough, if you don't have a Disc printer you MUST have a cover applicator. trying to do it by hand you'll wind up with the cover off center and tear up your drive and have unplayable DVD's.

    Cheers,

    Pete
