    hongwon,

Sorry guy, it has been awhile and I forgot all about that question -

    Mia culpa, Mia culpa

    psdmc,

    Thank you fine guy,

I'm glad you're burning BUT now that you're doing well, that doesn't mean it's time for you to leave - this is a give and take kind of deal - we had fun with you, now you get to have some fun yourself :)

It's people like you who make this site work - You've seen how we work and, you see we had fun doing it -

Now it's your turn, stop back when you're free and help someone else - You'll have fun and a chance to learn some more, (teaching is a learning experience too you know) the people you help will appreciate it and it will make you feel better :)

Then you can "Welcome" them into our little Club :D

We hope to see you around when you're not having problems to solve -

You'll find us hanging out, over there by the water cooler under the potted palm, chewing the fat and trying to help the next Newbie with the weight of the burning world upon their shoulders -

We'll be looking for you -

    Cheers,

    Pete

Well I posted earlier, but I deleted what I wrote because I think I answered my question. I have a new Dell computer and I ran Partition Magic 8.0, and unless my eyes are deceiving me, apparently I have my hard drive already in NTFS. Also since I successfully burned a dvd on a + disk with a Sony (which most of you have poo-pooed) and had success, it seems maybe my only problem was that I listened to some stranger at a computer store and bought DVD-Rs as opposed to DVD+Rs. I think I'll check out these Riteks GO4s that were recommended at meritline. Unless you guys shout a warning out to me I'll let you know how it goes. Thx a ton for all of your consideration and time helping those of us out of the tech loop. Cheers.

Ok I do need a little bit of last minute advice on which dvds to buy. I've heard branded Ritek GO4s mentioned. I just visited Meritline and here's what I found for Ritek:

Ritek Ridata (Ridata branded) 4x DVD+R (low as .44 each)

Ritek Ridata (Silver Matte) 4x DVD+R (low as .58 each)

Ritek Ridata (Silver Shiny) 4x DVD+R (low as .62 each)

Ritek Ridata (White Inkjet Printable) 4x DVD+R (low as .65 each)

Which one of these would you, the experts, recommend or should I try another kind? I figured I'd be annoying and double check before buying as I already am out $20 for the stack of DVD-Rs (err... coasters) that I bought the other day. I'll stop harassing you gentlemen very soon, I promise.

    jwhyrock,

I use + and -, the only thing you need to look out for is your player compatibility. I only say make sure they are branded and I recommend the G04. Inexpensive and extremely reliable.

Well I'm sure I'm good with + and apparently bad with - so that's out of the way. Everyone had said Ritek branded, and the one I found said Ritek "Ridata" branded. I was just double checking. Also I didn't see any mention of G04, so if you like that one maybe you could point me in the right direction.

LOL, no problem, ritek is ridata. :)

Get a little free tool called dvdinfopro, it's free, and it will analyze your media, drives, etc. A very handy little tool.

    jwhyrock,

I've got hundreds of burns on Ridata, you'll be good to go with them too.

    (I think the RitekG04's are -R)

The NEC burner (my sig) only eats +R media and has grown healthy and fat on Ridata and Verbatim.

    Cheers,

    Pete

    hi scubaPete,
I just got a dvd burner and used the directions you gave to Bryan for dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. I am not really sure how they work and in what order. I opended decrypter and hit a few buttons and it started saving it to my hard drive. It found a few errors and I told it to retry. It is still working on that. Then I guess I open shrink and copy it from the saved location. Yes??? Anything else I need to know?
    HELP???

shrink will rip except in a few cases, you can do it(rip) with decrypter and use those files in shrink, but it's easier just to rip with shrink, edit and compress with shrink and burn with decrypter.

when i used shrink with the dvd i was trying to shrink it came up with unable to something or other. I now tried another dvd with shrink. I hit back up and followed Pete's directions but when you hit backup a pop up come up for target it wouldn't let me send it to my burner drive. It was not an option so I chose iso to decrypter. I left the room after I hit ok. what should I expect next???
    Thanks

Make sure you didn't have enable auto burn with nero checked under edit/preferences/fileI/O and decrypter should burn the disc.

Shrink should read your burner tho, it may be since you weren't using another software to burn with, it made you choose decrypter in ISO in order for it to work.

I have sonic record now and roxio 6.Don't know why shrink didn't recognize my burner. but...it didn't work. I left it alone. It said it was complete and I am trying to play it and it starts at the begining and stops. I put it in my dvd player and that says disc error. The disc looks used.

now what i did was opened roxio and I am trying to make a copy from the hard drive. However I did try to play it before making a copy and it wouldn't play. So I think I must be wasting another blank dvd.

No. 1-get a couple of RW's to save on coasters.

No.2-aha! Roxio! Roxio is known to cause problems with all other DVD burning software, it is a greedy app and doesn't like to share. IOW,it doesn't play nice with others.

That could very well be your problem. It's even hard to uninstall as it leaves remnants in your PC after uninstalling. You can use add/remove and then there is a tool to completely remove the rest of roxio.

Don't know if it will help, but I just bet......

    Hi,

I am having a problem trying to make a backup of Road To Perdition. I have followed Scuba Pete's instructions faithfully and when DVD Shrink is encoding, it stops at the 49% mark and I get an error message saying "failed to read file D:\ Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted"

Is there any hope/help out there? Scuba Pete?.....

I just backed up Road to Perdition using Shrink and Nero...no problems. I've never used Decryptor - Shrink - Nero to burn, but maybe that's a start. I'm sure Scuba will help you.

hi, I am trying to copy Mean Girls and Jersey and am having the same problem. I get to 91% and the message the sector is encrypted comes up. I can't even get to the burn process. What should I do then while still in shrink?
    Thanks
