Hello, I have read all comments regarding burning copy protected movies, but I have been away from computers for 2 years. I hope this posts into the MAC section. I have an IMAC G5, 2G double processor (suerdrive), 1.5GRAM and 250G hard drive It has the application IDVD, IMovies, disk image, I have successfully copied a DVD-R disk, but when I tried to copy one of my retail movies of course it was copyright protected and only the movie studio footage copied then it stopped. Both downloading to my computer and then burning took about 30 minutes each. SOOO from reading all the posts it sounds like all I need is some sort of decoder to get rid of the copy protection. Please tell me what I need to buy/do. I am looking for simple because I am not very computer savy. Thx
first off. this doesnt exist, you either have a powermac G5, 2.0ghz dual processor. or you have an imac, g5, 2.0ghz (single processor) but that's beside the point. you need to get Mac The Ripper to get it onto your HD and then burn it using toast. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/mactheripper.cfm but you are going to need to compress it. so you can use popcorn or dvd2OneX. popcorn has a built in burner. also.. check out this guide.. will give you all the info you need. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/125996
Thanks for replying so fast. Thanks for such a quick reply.!! I read all the forums and your tutorial. I downloaded Mactheripper. Downloaded a movie that was 3.7original size to a folder on my desktop. When I was done I could view it using my computer dvd player, but I had to folow a path and open up the file video_TS to play. The dvd player wouldn't do it automatically. SOOO when I burned the file by it's computer generated name image THE_REF.cdr it wasn't readable. The tutorial for Disk Utility says this is what you want to copy to burn. Should I just try to burn the Video_TS file? that's where the movie is. I have down loaded and copied non copy written material before using my disk utility program using the computers tutorial. I am sorry if this sounds stupid. I am trying NOT to use a compression program on top of all this. Sounds like I don't need to with this particular movie, right? thanks again
you're welcome for the fast reply... i'm usually always around online somewhere. i got aD bookmarked on every computer i use. anywayz, when you ripped the movie, did you use full disk or main feature. sometimes when you do only movie, it gives you issues. i just realized.. did you burn the dvd after you put the video_ts through DVD Imager? disk utility on its own won't burn the "dvdrom (udf)" you need DVD Imager. then run it through. what you can always do is pick up some dvdrws. so in case it dont play correctly, you dont lose a disk. then if it does burn correctly you can do copy to copy. but remember... VIDEO_TS needs to go thru DVD Imager before you burn with disk utility. here's the link: http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
hi got your last message. Can't I use Disk Utility instead of DVD imager? That's what i used to make a copy of a dvd-r that a friend let me borrow. So far i down loaded a full version of a retail movie I own using macthe ripper and i can watch it using my G5 DVD player AFTER i open the Video-TS file and then ask it to play. So if I can view it why can't I burn it? I used the directions for burning a DVD out of the help menu of the Disk utility. I burned the image I created "THE_FILENAME.cdr" It took about 20 minutes and said it was successful. When I tried to watch the new disk with my computer DVD it said no disk even though it was on my desktop with the name "THE_FILENAME Then when I was poling around disk utility I noticed a button mounted and unmounted when I pushed it, it added a driver icon with the file name with all it's contents listed. Should I burn that? I read your directions using DVD imager it was VERY confusing to me. Can you tell me how to burn this DVD using Disk Utility
you need dvd imager. if you burn the folders with disk utility, they wont work. disk utility does not work for dvd rom (udf). dvd imager comes with its own instructions.
