I have had some sucess backing up some of my DVD burning DVD+- R with DVD Decrypter and then Shrink. I play the DVD on a Sony DVP-NC615 5-Disc CD/DVD Changer.

Decided to try some Verbatim DVD+R DL and get the entire 7GB on the DVD instead of compressing with Shrink.

First I used DVD Decrypter to hard disk, and then DVDFAB to remove all but the movie, to disk. Then burned with Nero 6.0.6.6 to a Plextor 716. The first movie was perfect on the PC AND the Sony, .but when I tried 2 Star Wars movies, they played fine on the PC using DVD POWER (perfect) but the Sony only played them for about 45 sec then stops in freeze frame.

Can anyone guess what might be the problem?

    Thx

hmmm your sony deck probably doesnt like the brand of blank media you are using .what brand are you using?

Verbatim seems to be the top choice

also burn at a slow speed like 2x

and if your using dvd+r try booktyping the media to dvd-rom ,that makes it the most compatable eith standalone players

Thanks for your reply, should of said these are Verbatim as I only use Verbatim and Yuden and consider them to be the best after lots of stumpling around.
I did try the DL on a newer Phillips and they worked so must be my older Sony. Too bad.

Dont undestand the "booktyping" the media. Do you have a link for me to lean more on how to do this??

I have also found on the internet, all sites refer to DVD-R as being compatible with the Sony 5-disc but to my experinence, I think the DVD+R are better. Most likely need to purchase a new DVD player so thought about getting a JVC HR-XVS44U VCR/DVD recorder/copier to copy my S-vedio VHS and use for a DVD player. Do most of the newer DVD play the DL OK? Any knowledge of the JVC HR-XVS44U or any recommendations?

The first problem is that you are using DL discs so that you can fit the entire movie on one disc without compression, yet you reauthor using DVD Shrink. This defeats the purpose. Rip the movie in ISO read mode and then select the MDS file to burn in ISO write mode. The MDS contains the information on where to place the layer break. From what I have read on this site DVD Decrypter and IMGburn do the best job on DL discs, and Nero and other progs are still buggy.

    Thanks for responding.
No, on the DL didnt use Shrink. What I did do was use DVD Decrypter to HD, then (there is a DVDFAB App that is not free which will remove automatically all the junk from the movie except the movie, will also decrypt sometimes and put a DVD-9 on (2) DVD-5 or 9 to 9) then put the output from Decrypter into this program to remove all the memus, banner, commerical, etc, and then burned with Nero.

Will try what you said: rip using DVD Decryptor from the org DVD to HD, using ISO READ, then rerun DVD Decryptor by selection the MDC file from the ouuput, from above and burn using DVD Decryptor. Correct?

    Hi All,
This is first time I try to burn DVD onto DVD+R DL using DVD Shrink. I try three times and it all failed. I try a dvd size 7.9G and 11.2G and they both failed.

First, I use DVD Fab on the original DVD to my HD.
Then I use DVD shrink to burn to DVD+R DL.

It fails ones it start to burn to the disk.

So, I cannot use DVD shrink to burn DVD+R DL

Do I have to use another tool?

    Thank You
    Mike

You dug up an almost 5 year old, dead thread. You can't burn a DVD with DVD Shrink.

Start a new thread, please, so the Mods can close this goldy oldy.
