    Hey everyone,
Every disk im burning right now, shows up like this:

    http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/7241/rawrtg4.jpg

There is that little circle line there, and the DVD is at least 3g. When I try to play it, it freezes up. Does anybody know if this is a program problem, Burner hardware problem, or the DVD Disk itself? This just started happening when i switched to a new spindle of DVDs, but 1 out of 4 or so would work. Hi tydytao
Might just be the discs themselves. Which brand are you using like Sony +R 16x?

To rule out the burner a couple of things to try:
°If you have another burner - try that one and see if you have the same problem.
°Try another brand of media - like Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

    Hello Binkie,
This is a WINDATA DVD. The spindle i used before was also Windata, but the top of it wasnt the same.
I dont have another burner, nor any other disks ATM. I wanted to find out what it can be before i go out and buy something.
    Thank you for the help.

    Not a problem there tydytao

Windata uses different manufacturers some good some bad so this batch may be made by one of the iffy manufacturers.
Can be hit or miss on who you get so try the ones listed above.

    Hi tydytao
May be related. Your NEC is an older one but it can use a firmware update so let's try that 1st. The latest is 1.93.

The log only show the media as +R - still using the Windata or which ones are you using?

    Nero API version: 7.2.3.2
Nero can use an update too - the latest is 7.5.0.9a.
May or may not help this issue but 7.5.0.9a is a better version.

    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS
Nero and Roxio don't always play well so if the above fails may want to uninstall it and run the zap tool.

Give that a go and keep us posted.

I'm still using the same media. I'll update the Nero version. Thanks. I also ran the Roxio Zap. It's been uninstalled for a while.
Thanks, i'll post back after i try more burnings.

Ok - since it's been uninstalled then the zap tool should just rid of that Roxio driver shown in the log.

Let's us know how it goes.

edit to add: Update the firmware for the burner too.

Alright I just tried a different media, the only other one i have. It's a Hypermedia DVD+RW

It looks like the same type of error comming up:

Is media still a possibility of the problem? Or is it more torwards my Drive now?

Well neither Kypermedia or Windata are great but combined w/ this being an older burner - only supports +R at 4x & +RW at 2.4x I'd get a new one. Good ones are so much cheaper now.

Newer drives support all format like +/- R/RW and -/+ R Dual Layer going to a max burn speed of 18x depending on the format.

In this new log you're also getting this - Reset occurred & KEY_UNIT_ATTENTION o it's probably on it's last legs and might just be the reason you have those rings in the ones that did burn.

At some point update Nero to the latest version. But 1st do a clean install - looks like you still have some of Nero 6 left Using interface version: 6.3.1.4

Uninstall Nero, run the Clean Tool. Reboot.
Now run a registry cleaner like the free ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options.
    Reinstall Nero.

Until you get another drive may want to also give ImgBurn a try. It's free.
To burn these dvd's use the build mode and add the files or video_ts folder.

Good burners would be LiteOn, Plextor (most expensive), Pioneer or another NEC.
If you're in the US check out newegg.com - all but the Plextor can be had for around $30-$35.

Actually tydytao the good stuff is just as much as the bad stuff :)

Best Buy has Verbatim on sale 50 for 12.99. But for your current burner I wouldn't use them cause they're usually 16x and may be hit or miss on your burner. A new one different story.

LighScribe just means it will etch a picture/image on lightscribe media which is more then 'regular' media. I have it on 1 drive but have never used it. I prefer the inkjet printable discs that I use an Epson to on.

Which model #'s were you looking at?

I was looking at SOHW-1673SU EZ Dub and the LH-20A1H. I'm more torwards the LH-20A1H

Do internal drives work better than external drive or vice versa?

Internal and external are about the same. Just have more flexiblity like moving the external to a different pc.

Wow- now that's the 1st I've seen an 20x burner! Personally I would look at 18x or 16x ones - 20x is brand new to the market and may still need a little work. I could be off base her though.

Yeah on the media just check the weekly sales - usually something good on sale for good prices. I buy most of media online Taiyo Yuden (best) from supermediastore.com but when the Verbatim's go on sale pick up a pack of those 2.
