Hi, I've recently started having problems burning movies/data to DVDs.

No matter what program I use whether its data/video via Nero (7 Premium) or movies using DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink or CopyToDVD (movies using last 3) the computer goes through the motions of burning but at random times the disc sometimes won't recognise on my PC, sometimes it does. The tooltip for my burner says "Used 0, Free 0"

Sometimes these discs that aren't recognised in my PC will play in my DVD recorder (LG DR175) and sometimes they won't.

My burner is an NEC ND-3550A

My burner is newish and has only burnt about 50-80 discs in total since I bought it from new.

Could this be a problem with my burner? Maybe firmware? The latest firmware is 1.06 (that I can find) and I have 1.05 installed.

All these problems started happening since I upgraded to Nero 7 Premium and I don't want to have to go back to a previous version of Nero if I can help it (if Nero is the cause of the problem) as that would be a waste of money upgrading Nero although I will if I have to.

    Many thanks.

EDIT: At the end of every burn it says the burn was successful.

What media are you using and how fast are you burning??

It would also be helpful if you posted a NeroLog which might reveal possible problems.

You can find modified firmware for your NEC here though firmware may not be your problem.

    hello,

DMA's are off HERE is a how to get them back on

From this log it looks like u r using great disks, r these the 8x speed verbatims,
if so have u tried burning them at 4x or 6x?
as 2x seems to slow for these disks.

U have Roxio installed could have a conflict with nero
HERE is a RoxioZAP tool to get rid of it

You are right there is a firmware update but i wouldn't think it would help if u are using Verbatims 8x speed.

Also that version of nero u r using might be full of bugs, wait for an AD member to suggest a better version with less bugs.

First, thanks for that great reply!

The discs aren't branded as Verbatim, rather as "Mirror".

The Maxtor STM drive is a 320GB SATA drive which is C:
The other Maxtor and the Western Digital are via a PCI/IDE card (F: and G:)
On my IDE adapter on my mobo I have another 80GB drive (E:) and my NC DVD RW drive (D:)

JFI, my mobo is an abit KN9 SLI, I've got one stick of 1024MB DDR2 800 in slot 0, my gfx card is an ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 256MB GDDR3 and my CPU is an AMD Athlon x2 2.6GHz 5200 dual core.

But I've not got Roxio installed, don't even have any install discs for it as I've no interest in it.

This is actually a driver for Roxio, did u build ur PC or buy it built already?
cuz it might have been preloaded on ur PC,
anyway i would suggest running the RoxioZap tool just to get rid of that driver
it may be conflicting with Nero.

Well im puzzled about the MID code which is MCC which is Verbatims MID code.

Have u tried Verbatim or Tiayo Yuden media, they are the best.

Also since u r not using Verbatim media that firmware update might help.

    I built the PC myself.

I'll remove the drivers and see what happens. Hopefully it'll use Windows drivers if not I'll see what I can find on the web.
