ok. i created a image using a120 and i mounted the image. the game runs. but im tryin to get a copy to work for my g/f cause she has little brothers and sisters that will destory her cds and she only has a 10 gig hdd so she cant have the image on her hdd cause it will take up to much space. i was following the instructions here
    http://www.gamefileforums.com/ikonboard.cgi?s=5c3a1897bb2aaf212a8a1ad44c561c22;act=Print;f=3;t=272
which i found in this thread.
and i figured i would copy my cd contents to the hdd from the mounted image cause it will be faster. but i got a CANNONT COPY COMPRESSED: DATA ERROR(CYCLE REDUNDANCE CHECK) i also noticed that when i tryed to copy the contents of the BURNT cd to the hdd that it got the same error.

does this mean my burner isn't capable of copying this game???

    PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A

i am also using sd2/3 to copy and burn with 1x copy and 4x burn (as low as it will go for burn)

    @ mothman

Your post is rather confusing so let's try to clear some things up.

The CD contents are already on the hard drive - they're the files that you're mounting. A virtual drive merely make the existing image appear as a CD drive, it doesn't make a new image.

A CRC means there's unreadable data on the disc.

If you want the game to work on your girlfriends PC you need to first install the game then burn a working copy of the play disc for her to use. I've used my 708A to make working copies of SafeDisc 3.20.022 games so your burner is capable of doing this.

I know in your mind you know exactly what's going on and what you want to do but we don't so the more detail and the better you explain things to us the better we can help :)

if you would have went to that link you would have known what i was talking about. you have to drag all the contents off the cd into a folder. download files and add them to it. then burn all those files. it creates a foreign cd i think. which (excuse me if i cant say this)is easier to crack or something along those lines. just goto that page if u didn't understand and you will understand. i only posted that because thats how i realized i was gettin the crc erros.
i know the image is the files already on my computer. you think you coulda figured that out by me posting that i mounted the image and tried to get the files off that.

sorry for not bein more clear but thats the whole point of me posting here. i cant get a burnt working copy. everytime i burn it it will say its burning succesfully. but then when i stick in the cd the sims 2 picture shows up on the desktop like its launching. then it just sits there and if i let it sit long enough (5ish minutes) it will give me an error saying something about sims.exe (i dont remember the exact error)

when copying the image i also get alot of read data examination erros. but always thought this was normal with safedisc 3.x? could be wrong tho.

@Mothman- make sure all safedisc emulations, especially 'ignore media type' are enabled. Try the slowest burn speed available, and yes read errors are perfectly normal.

are the crc errors normal as well?

i've tried everything i can think of with a120 and still cant get it to burn right and i've wasted many cds. would clonecd work better for this game?

has anybody got a working copy of sims2 to work without any other software helping (cracks, clone cds hide cd-r function, etc.) so if you was to install the game on pc with none of this software on it the copy would work.

tried clone cd. didn't work either. i was gettin the emulation detected errors so i just unistalled clone cd. then when the game went to launch the sims 2 thing would pop up then close after only a second or 2 followed by a error. darn game.

I haven't done Sims 2 but Doom 3 uses the same version of SafeDisc and I made a copy using my PX-708A using BlindWrite 4.57 and the following setting:

    Read settings:
    - Authorize the use of alternative method
    - Choose nibble and read at 8x

    Write settings:

    - No Enhance Weak Sectors
    - No autoplay enabled
    - Burn DAO Pw at 4x

would version 5.2.6b work perhaps? or would i need to find the same version you used.

edit- nvm they had 4.5.7 right on their front page.

Yeah, 4.57 is the one you want. BW5 is known to have a real hard time with SafeDisc 3.20.022.

well shiz i thought it might have worked but it didn't. same stupid error. maybe i didn't have a setting right in blindwrite. theres so many different settings in so many different places. and during installion it asked me i wanted to install other things i clicked no on both of them. 1 was just and update service but the other one was something else. does that need to be enabled?

patin coffin is the name of the thing that i clicked no to during installion. do i need that?

ok heres what i did during the copyin process with blind

in blind read i went to general settings and automatic updates, play sound at completion and live assist are all off but they probably dont matter anyways.

    went to dump image
authorize use of alt. methods is checked
    extract subcodes is unchecked
    hit next
    have it set to nibble.
    adapt speeds is check
minimum is 1x(should this be 8x too?)
    max is 8x
    then i hit read.
thing reads and asks me if i want to make a physical media layout. yes or no?
i clicked yes for the hell of it and then i hit start and it asks me automatic set last sector? i clicked yes again.
its gettin read errors at sector 332200
so im guessing there was no point in making a physical media layout

in blindwrite in the general settings everything is unchecked execpt for Automatic (write cache size) and eject when finished.

    start cd writing wizard.
in the advanced tab do i need to change anything?
hit next twice and get to the cd verifcation thing
    i hit start

    it tells me
    hd imagge ok
    sector headers are correct
    some sectors have uncorrectable errors
    some sectors are weak
    volumes and files found..
    no physical media data found
    the image is good
use "dao pw" or "dao pq" writing mode (check enhance weak sectors)
    hit next
then i set it to dao pw at 4x and burn

i was thinking about trying pq then trying pq and pw with enhance weak sectors checked. any other suggestions?

You certainly need it but if you already have BW5 on your system it's already installed.

Nope. That's for SecuROM protected games.

Ok, when you open BlindRead here's what you want:

    Then this:

When you go to write you want to go to Configuration straight away where you want these settings:

Now the last screen and settings you want to see is this:

Those are the exact settings I used to copy Doom 3 (same protection as Sims 2) with my PX-708A :)

ok i gave up on burning sims 2 but i've noticed that i have screwed up some settings somewhere installing all this software (ccd, blindwrite). i open my copmuter and it shows my dvd drive. if i boot with a cd in it will show the icon for the cd above the drive. but this icon is permently stuck there until i boot again. if i boot with no cd in then its permently stuck with no special icon even if i put a cd in after boot. and if there is no cd in and i try to double click it to go into its directory then instead of just taking me to the drive and showing no files it says PLEASE INSERT A DISC.
i've already uninstalled bw and ccd and even a120 and ran registry mechanic. but nothing helped.

Uninstalling the drive through Device manager may help.

    Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.
