I never split a movie I don't want to watch all the BS if you must, put all the extras and menus on the 2nd disc. Nero will work with Shrink if you want to use Nero,or use Nero Recode. the menus and the extras is were they hide the BLOCKS read the guides on AD they are more indepth.Roxio will also shrink the movie to fit a 4.7 if you use AnyDVD

Right, but if you have a 3.5 hour movie, dvdshrink, nero, nero recode or dvdclone compresses the media, but the quality of the such a recording goes waaaay down. My test subject this morning dvdclone estimates at 53% quality. Terrible. I'll be happy if it works, just so I can see it work. But 53% isn't acceptable in the long run, so either I have to split or go out and get the expensive double layer disks.

I hadn't heard that the menus etc hide Blocks, but I'm sure you're right. Still, I prefer to have them...makes life easier for me.

What do you do with a long movie like apocalypse now or lawrence of arabia? Just stick with whatever compression nero/shrink/decrypter/clone gives you?

If your looking for a program that will encode a DVD9 onto a DVD5 disc with very good quaility then try DVDRebuilder + CCE. It takes longer to do a movie but the outcome is defently well worth the time. It also has a BATCH featur that you can set up the program to do more then 1 DVD. I will set it up to do like 4 DVD's and let it go over night. By the time morning comes the DVD's are ready to burn.

If your intrsted in using the program go to the link below and check it out.

IF you must have the whole thing you might have to use DL's Shrink can do a start and stop thing but I have never done that I've had a few movies that I had to use DL's I'm sure someone on AD can help. When I started out backing up movies I wanted the same thing the whole disc after a while I found out all that I really wanted was just the movie it made better backups most at 100%

Thanks, larry. I'll check it out. But I thought I remembered dvdshrink has the capability to split a media file onto 2 disks as well. Am I totally wrong here? Also, I thought that shrink ONLY works in conjunction with another software program - specifically Nero (7)...again, am I totally wrong here? Can it work just as well alone or with dvdclone?
