So I'm backing up using shrink to rip and nero to burn. Both latest versions. Nero completes the burn, I hit "okay" then "done" and out pops the disc. examining the disc I notice the outer ring (less than a half inch) hasn't been burned on. I threw the disc into a dvd player and sure enough it freezes towards the end.

So I tried using my second burner. Got the same results.

I recently installed empire earth 2 so I uninstalled and tried again. Same result.

I did a system restore to a time before when things were working fine. Same result.

At first I was thinking that I wore my drive out but the same thing is happeneing on both drives.

    Any Ideas???

When the burn is done Shrink will or should automatically eject the disc. You shouldn't have to touch anything until the disc is ejected.

Looks like your burner doesn't like your media. A firmware update might help. I have the same burner and my firmware is HSOR, can be found here: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html

Just passing thought i would add my comment.. locking up at the back end its all down to media and speed.. sony disks are crap ive been doing dvds since they started coming out on Rs 1999 and if you burn too fast and your burn proof kicks in which some dvd players dont like then you will hit trouble, i always burn at x6 speed on x8 speed disks and never have a problem and i always use fuji dye disks there the best.. forget about ritek they are totally over rated unless you use pink aritas but you never know if its a true ritek now a days with all the 3rd Part companies any way just though i would add my comment hope you have sucess in what you do. try intervideo to rip your dvds its very fast and can do direct from your original dvd disk with anydvd running in the backround

    Please try some different media.

I have had problems with Sony DVDs and would not be suprised if this is the problem. At least try some DVD-RW media so we can all try and figure out if the problem is media related.....You know, the process of elimination.

I'm going to remove the sony drive. It's on the same chain as the lite on.

Okay unplugged the sony and successfully burned on the lite on. Burning a second right now to be sure. Looks like the Sony was the problem. Just a side note - my power supply is a Antec tru 380 which, if you see my system specs above, should be plenty to power all the components right?

Burned the second successfully. It was not the media as I had stated before but I understand "the process of elimination".

    Thank you for everyones suggestions.

Just a closing not for your future reference, a power calibration error on nero basically means your dvd writer failed to initialise, which means you have exceded the life of your dvd writer you can in some cases slow the burn speed down to x2 and carry on writing for another 2 months, or in some cases the drive wont work at all, but in my experience of using nero (6years) and numerous drives, this is what power calibration means.
