I came across this site while looking into an error Nero's been giving me when trying to burn DVDs. The drive is an HP DVD Writer 840d. It burns CDs (both CD-R and CD-RW) fine, but so far I've been completely unable to get it to burn a DVD-- I've tried burning just data files and ISOs four or five times and Nero failes every time 1%-2% into the burn process. The media I;m using is Windata DVD+R.

Can anyone help? Here's the error log Nero generates:

If you can get some 'Verbatim' brand disks or something that says 'Made in Japan' on the package and burn them at 4x, then it will eliminate a possible cause of the problem.

I can do that. So it's probably just the speed and media type? Nothing else in the log stands out as a possibility?

With IDE drives one would look for the DMA to be on, however SATA drives are not reported properly by Nero, so the drive is probably set ok and if not then ripping would be noticeably slow.
To get Nero out of the picture, you could save the output to a folder and burn the disk with ImgBurn.

    http://www.imgburn.com/

    Run ImgBurn
    Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
    Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.
If it's an ISO imge to be burned, select 'Mode' > 'Write'
