Can you please help me determine if the laptop I am about to buy is a good deal or no? I am not too technical but I want a decent machine that is fast but reasonable in price.

    Compaq Presario R3000Z Notebook Computer Package with AMD® Athlon™ XP-M Processor 2800+
    • 256MB DDR memory
    • 40GB hard drive

What does this processor speed equal to in Pentium?
If i upgrade to 512 MB would that be better?

What is the next higher level processor after the 2800+? and how many GHz its equavilant to?

it is equivelent to a 2.8Gig P4. I think the next up is a 3000 (equiv to a 3.0 P4). Depends on what you're using your laptop for, but for basic applications 2800 would be fine. The same goes for the 256 meg of ram, but you will notice significant performance and speed incread by upgrading to 512.
