Recently i damaged my C&C Generals CD2 Disk, i have a backup on my pc, but when i burn it to cd and install it.. when it gets to "insert CD2" bit.. it doesn't recongnise it.. it comes up "insert Command and Conquer Generals Disk 2" i think it is something to do with naming the disk correctly, i tried to do this in nero but it only allows about 8-12 letters.. how can i name the disk to "Command and Conquer Generals Disk 2"????? any ideas??
Command& Conquer Generals (cd 1) is Safedisc 2.8.x cd protected m8. Programs like Alcohol 120%, CloneCD or Blindwrite Suite can produce working backups. The question here is what is the name brand and model of your cd burner to determine if you'll need emulation to play your backup. In the meantime download Alcohol 120% and install. Shoey
In anycase, Nero is poo for burning anything but simple stuffos..... if tcan support more than 8.3 naming convention. Just enable the Joliet media descriptor settings
[bold]Sorry My Bad[/bold]... Its my [bold]Zero Hour Disk 2[/bold], not Generals... i'm sure my burning techneque is ok, as ive never had any probs before.. but anyway, my "writer" info is in signature... and the files are stored on pc as Bin/Cue files_X_X_X_X_X_[small]System :- P4 2.8GHz 800MHz Prossesor, 512MB DDR SDRAM PC-3200, Samsung 52x24x52x - CD-RW, Pioneer A06 - DVD-RW/CD-RW ---------------------------------- Software :- Nero 6, Roxio E CD/DVD 6, D-tools Virtual Drive [/small]
C&C Generals: Zero Hour (cd 1) is Safedisc 2.9.x cd protected. Your Pioneer& Samsung falls under the class of "1 sheep burners". Basically this means you'll need the aid of a ATIP tool to play your backups in your burners (ignore media type\hide cd-r). To make a working backup of cd 1 use Alcohol 120% and go to general>options>data type setting>record options and enable Bypass EFM Error. Burn the cue RAW DAO at 8x (or lower). Burn cd 2 (cue) like you would burn a "data" disc at low speed. Open Alcohol 120% and go to options>general>emulation and enable ignore media type and minimize Alcohol 120% to system tray\startup (a must) and play your backup in your burner(s). If you backup pc gaming on a routine basis then grab a "2 sheep burner" m8. I have had a problem with Zero Hour in that I am probably the messiest guy around, but i stay a gamer by backup copying all my games. Unfortunately for me Zero Hour is protected and on the brink of destruction, and i really need you to tell me how i can make a backup copy. I have a DVD rom drive and a CD RW drive. Thankyou!
1. Need to know the make and model of your burner to determine if it is a 1-sheep or 2-sheep burner. To determine your make and model of your optical drives; if you happen to have Nero Infotools installed, start it up and under the Drive tab, it will list all the relevant specifications and capabilities of your burner. The actual name of your burner is listed in the drop-down box at the top (those numbers before the name of your burner are important too!). You can get InfoTools from http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_info_tool.cfm For a list of 2-Sheep burners as well as an explaination as to what exactly "sheep" are, see http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/45121 and http://www.elby.ch/en/products/clone_cd/writers/a.html 2. Depending on whether you have 1-sheep or 2-sheep burner there are different instruction sets. For steps on how to backup SafeDisc 2.8+ with 1-Sheep burner see http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/36444 For steps for burning SafeDisc2 see http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23699
Hi there, I signed in just in order to add this reply. I've been following various threads about the newer safedisc versions(2.8-2.9) in the last days, 'cause I wanted to know how to backup my c&c generals... I've got a couple of Samsung devices, a SW240B burner and a SD616Q DVD reader, and I believe that the two of them doesn't make one single sheep. I've followed mainly Shoey's advices about programs and methods to use, but I ended up with 3 useless copies of CD1: 2 burned with Alcohol (DAO/SAO & RAW DAO) and one with Blindwrite 4.25. Eventually I decidec not to litter further our precarious ecosystem and bought a RW CD. I used Alcohol (latest ver) again to rebuild an image (with subchannel data) at 4x speed (it took about 2 and half hours with my damned dvd) of CD1, and then I burned it on the CDRW at 4x in SAO+SUB with EFM error skip. Needlessly to say, it worked, and the game started with the cd in the burner (not in the dvd), no emulation on, and it worked on another pc also (final proof). Don't know if it's just luck or if it's normal. However, given the tons of posts I've seen on this argument, I hope this one helps... Goodbye.
Of course I did, but I guess it's got not much of hw support by the reader; sorta trying to have a blind read a non-braille text, I guess... Another DVD (LG, don't remember the model) took 30 mins, with same options. Bah...
