Hi, have you got specific answers to these questions before going any further.

1> Have you got a Null modem cable (9pin female both ends)?

2> Have you got a 9pin male serial port on your computer?

3> If you have not got a 9pin male serial port on your computer, have you got a USB to serial adapter.[/quote]

    hi
got null modem cable with null to usb adaptor

OK, open up device manager with nothing plugged in, then while looking at device manager, plug just the USB adapter in to the comp (leave other end dangling). Then does anything pop up with a yellow conflict mark on it in device manager?

Also did you install the adapter driver after you downloaded it? if so how.

Can you be more specific, are there any yellow warning signs on it, under which section in device manager does it come up.
Also if you expand the tab Ports (COM&LPT), is there anything in there?
The driver you tried to install, was it a self executing one where you installed it by pressing next and OK etc.

Yes that is a good guide e45, but i think he may be having problems installing his driver, dont know yet.

Can you close device manager, unplug the adapter and then open device manager up again, and let me know if the yellow sign has gone.

OK de4, the problem is that you have not got the driver installed for the adapter. I am at work at the moment so can not download the driver to see if it is an executable one or not.

If it is, make a new folder on your desktop and put the zip file you downloaded inside it.
Then right mouse click the file and select extract here, hopefuly it will extract a setup that you can double click and follow installation instructions. Try that.

Thats the right one, you need toRIGHT mouse click the folder, select extract all from the pop up menu, then open the extracted folder, you should see a yellow setup program, just double click it

What you have described is telling me you have already extracted the folder, and its just telling you it already exists and do you want to replace it. You can select copy and replace if you want. You should be able to just double click the installer and just run it. I can not think of a reason why it is not installing. What is happening when you double click the installer and run it?
