Can anyone take a look at my hijack this log and give me some tips on how to speed up my new Dell laptop?

It seems to start out very slowly and take more resources to do simple things that I would expect it to.
It's an i5 2400 with 6 GB of DDR 3 RAM (I believe DDR two) and a 640 GB 5400 RPM hard drive.

I will be using the laptop primarily foreign office workstation and I will rely heavily upon speech recognition software. I have tried to speed it up myself and I just want to make sure that I have everything running optimally.


Here is my log. Oh, I forgot to mention that when I start hijack this I get a message about the program not being able to access my host files. I follow the on-screen instructions but it does not seem to remedy the problem.

Sounds like a virus or malware problem.
Go to this link and download the kaspersky virus removal tool at the top of the list and run it.

Once you have completed a full scan download malwarebytes anti malware free version and install. before you do a full scan make sure to click the update tab to download the latest definition files.

I checked your hijackthis log and all looks ok except for the following which you can get rid of.

When you get the scan log sorted & are sure no malware exists this is where i see the problem.

Replace hdd with 7200rpm model,yes it's that's simple & the performance boost will be instantaneously apparent as your ram & cpu are fine,ok so i'm taking what happened with an older hp desktop when i switched IDE 5400 to IDE 7200 hdd however the increase in speed was instant

you can use this (it's free) to create an image file of your hdd or do a direct clone,however don't sell your original hdd as you can use it as a failsafe backup in case of hdd failure,if you decide too set up a scheduled weekly one time backup image file,you use these like restore points but only better as viruses can't infect them once created.

easiest method of cloning hdd is to have an external ready,create an image file of C as well as any boot partition that resides before c but has no drive letter,set destination of file to external then once done create a bootable disc with easeus then turn off laptop & external,replace 5400 hdd with faster,this next bit might be tricky you need the external on when rebooting with disc in dvd dive but you want the dvd drive as first boot device,then it's a matter of locating image & restoring to hdd
