@Adouble 11 You suppose to "uninstall" your driver(s) that has DMA turned to Off or PIO Mode. Once you restarted your computer, windows will automatically detects and reinstall it for you. Try this guide on how to troubleshoot and or enable your DMA back On. ((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" its driver “for Win XP users” by alkohol)) Here are some helpful pictures for references. A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER," left click on "PROPERTIES" B) left click on "HARDWARE," left click on "DEVICE MANAGER" C) left click on + sign of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers D) double left click on either “Primary” or “Secondary IDE Channel” E) left click on "DRIVER," left click on "UNINSTALL" You will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system," just click "OK," now "SHUTDOWN" or "Restart" your computer F) once you restarted your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner’s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!! **NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "Uninstall" it from the “DVD/CD-ROM Drives” ****at Device Manager**** (A) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives (B) double left click on your DVD burner or your DVD-ROM drive (C) click on "DRIVER," "UNINSTALL," "OK" and then "Shutdown" or "Restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
@ Discmania...Yes I unchecked/ checked the boxes, but didn't try another burn yet. I would like to try to fix as much things so I don't waste any more discs, but thanks for asking. @ alkohol...this is the same guide I used, but I was hesitant to uninstall my drivers, but if Windows will install themselves than I will give it a shot.
I uninstalled my drivers and there is a problem installing them when I restart my computer. It says: Cannot Install this Hardware There was a problem installing this hardware IDE channel An error occurred during the installation of the device Driver is not intended for this platform. I'm not going to try any burns until this is resolved because I'm not going to waste any TY's. Please assist me as to why this is not working properly. Thanks
Try checking that the internal IDE cable is securely fastened to your burner and motherboard inside your PC. You will be suprised by how often this can come loose. Also make sure the power cable is securely fastened to the burner. You should invest in a DVD-RW disc when problems like this occur. If the problem recurs during a burn you just erase the disc and start again.
I did a burn yesterday and it worked? I'm guessing all my cables are plugged in properly if I successfully did a burn. But my drivers are still not installed?
They must be installed otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the drive. You can go to device manager to check if the drivers are infact installed correctly.
I'm not at home right now, but when I double click on IDE it has different options than it did before. There is also yellow exclamations points (!) next to them. When I put in a DVD it use to pop up and ask would like to open using power DVD, etc. but now it doesnt it just shows a folder with AUDIO TS and VIDEO TS. Its not the same anymore. When I restart my computer it says reinstall unsuccessful everytime, its kind of anoying. The exact error it reads is stated above.
Check the IDE cables first that they are secure. Then use the 'roll back' uption for the drivers and then try and reinstall the drivers again.
It was always my best drive and then I did a clean sweep on my PC and installed my Norton Ghost copy. Since then I've been having problems, which leads me to believe that the drive may still be in working condition. I think it is something minor but I have a lack of experience when it comes to this.
