I am having a ton of problems with Nero, there are several error messages that I get. One is a reset error occured, another is invalid block address, and there are a couple others too. This happens with CD's, VCD's, and DVD's. It also happens only about 75% of the time. Burning DVD's with DVD Decrypter works fine, so it isn't my burner.

Can you see anything wrong in this log? Thanks in advance!

    You should enable your DMA:
    Here is a guide.

    what are these?:
Burners are cheap. Why don't you get another to replace that Toshiba. It does look like it had a hard time finding a block address on the CD. Could be the media though. I don't burn enough CDs to know what's good so you just want to make sure you are using good media. CMC-MAG (Memorex) is a no-no as far as DVDs go. It looks like the Toshiba had a tough time with it:

    @fasfrank ,

This looks like she is using a CD...up until I did a scan on my Verbatim CDs I didnt realize they were made by CMC mag...according to the majority of the "Forum" they are supposed to be OK...JUST NOT THE DVDs.....my Verbs (CMC Mag) have never let me down....I was so shocked I started my own thread.

If she is using a CD then take note of this

As we know this is way too slow and should be at least 32X.

hi Gwen, I did see the 8X burn speed and didn't remember ever burning one that slow. I might burn 1 or 2 cds a year.... I'm glad you caught it.

Those are the drives created by Daemon Tools I believe.

I did set my burn speeds to 8x, out of habit because I mostly burn DVD's and I have to do them at 8x. I'm going to do everything you suggested and then try again.

Thanks to both of you for your help!

Both of my IDE Channels were already set to "DMA if available"

So why aren't they showing up in Nero that way?

Right below where it says "DMA if available" it should have the current transfer mode as DMA:

    Is that what you have?

    Yes it is.

I get these error messages with DVDs too, so I switched to DVD Decrypter and it works fine (but only in safe mode...I think my anti-virus software was causing a problem when running thme simultaneously...there's a whole other thread about that in the converting forum).

I just performed a clean Nero uninstall using the tool on their website and then re-installed the program onto my computer, and got an error message again.

    Here's the log for that:

It's showing my DMA as on for my actual drives, and off for the Daemon created ones (which aren't being used in this burn).

Your DMA is now as it should be. Virtual drives= No DMA.

    I saw this:
What did you have in the burner for a blank DVD?

If it was CD-R blank, then I'd have to say it's your burner. It did not recognize the blank correctly.

Also the 16X burn speed is the fastest this (manufactured in 2002) burner can burn CDs...Which is 1/2 the slowest speed of a modern burner. Also it is a single format burner. No +R media can be burned.

Time for a burner upgrade. I'd take a look at RAM and hard drive upgrades too.

No it was a ruined CD from a past attempt at burning that resulted in the first error message that I posted. I just forgot to take it out of the burner and put in a blank one.

I will upgrade when I can, but my biggest issue is that it's always worked before, and now for some reason I'm getting error messages 75% of the time.

In googling I've noticed a .dll file that people are downloading to fix the issues that I'm having, but it looks like it only works for older versions, do you know anything about this?

Well you had me going. I thought that last log actually meant something.
I don't know of anything that a .dll could do for your burn problem.

You seem convinced that it's not your burner and you may be right.

It did mean something! It showed that DMA was on and it still wasn't working.

It very well could be my burner, I am just trying to make sure, and I don't know enough to be sure on my own. If the burner was going out, would it work sometimes still?

Now here's a fun twist. I dropped back to using Nero 6 because it's what DVD Shrink reccommends, and tried to burn a VCD, first by double clicking the cue file and loading it into Nero..it went to 9% and then sat there ALL NIGHT long. Never went any further. So I tried to mount the image using Daemon Tools and use the "disc copy" feature, and it went to 11% then stopped and never went any further. Since I'm not getting error messages, I don't know how to get a log-file to look at.

I suppose I'll try a DVD next to see if that works.
