Hello Mike71581 Drag N drop is a not bad software, it comes free and allows you to make Data cd's and dvd's also it allows you to make 20 cds from mp3 files. The bad side of Drag N drop is that it finalized the disc using disc at once. This is a good thing for backing up DVD movies or CD to be played in Cd players or DVD players but if you have a 10Mb file and want it on a DVD-r you can no longer use that dvd after writing. I personly like roxio easy cd creator 6, it allows for the addition of files one at a time until the disc full either using direct CD ( original name from roxio 5) or drag to disc ( what the same program is called in version 6). Roxio allows for track at once and the ability to finalize a disc in later burns. Most people in this forum recomend Nero, not bad program but similar to Drag N' drop it uses Disc at once and finalizes the DVD. For your media question I have been waiting for others to post what they use at (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/30202) an other thread here. As for the Panasoic program, It only allow you to edit digital video input and I find it randomly switches to japanese text on me and then I don't know what the buttons are anymore. I uninstalled this program and use Roxio 6 for home movies. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info. I'm going to try and make a data DVD from Drag & Drop. I just bought SONY DVD-R discs (CompUSA - $9 for 3) so I'll see how those work. Prisoner...you said that I can only make 20 audio CD's(not DVD's) using MP3's with Drag & Drop. Is that a limit set by the program? And is there a limit to copying CD's or DVD's? BTW I also agree with you on the Pasonic Software...I installed it and tried working it...it seems very complicated...plus the manul is 1000+ pages.
Mike The limit is only for turning mp3's into CD's that you can listen to in a stereo. This is to get you to like that option so you can pay $15 US for it after the 20 trial CD's. Every thing else will not expire. It seems funny to do that, as even Microsoft now lets you burn unlimted mp3 to audio CD with the new mediaplayer. After additional use I now can say that I full recommed Roxio 6, I found out that you can burn Divx files to DVD using the include DVD builder program. But this is a topic for a different forum. Hope every thing works out with the sony discs. If any of them do fail try changing the burn speed from max to 1x in the Data DVD setting menu. I find that my burn is actually a 1.4x at times (pulses between 0.8 and 1.4x) so if the disc is not a 2x, this setting should be made.
Useful discussion guys - thanks. If anyone EVER finds an easier way to burn DVDs on the Toshiba 2455, please let me know! Weird thing with DVD X Copy is - DVD XCopy Xpress burns DVDs just fine, but it doesn't copy anything except the movie. It's just the full version that's not working for me... (and I WANT all those little extras - like Brotherhood of the Wolf in English...)
Kimml2000 What you have with DVDExpress is not weird, it is actually what it is supose to do! For a complete backup use DVDxCopy, For a single disc backup use DVDexpress. To make the movie fit on a single disc, it edits out all the extra`s. Has DVDExpress burnt a full and complete movie for you in the engine? When I tryed with Express I got the usual, did not reconize the SDR6012 burner. I do prefer DVDxCopy and prefer the manual method of moving the copied files to disc, as if the disc is bad or the burning engine errors (I find now most for the errors are the burning engine not the media) I don't have to wait an other 20mins to reback up the movie.
No, on mine XPress works. Nothing will make X Copy work though so can't get the extras (would be worth the two disks sometimes). I get the "Cannot initialize the recorder for writing. Illegal request reported by DVD recorder" error.
Kimml2000 This probally means that our burn is reconized only in the newest DVDexpress version. To get the extra's and back up the movie using DVDxCopy read my first post on this thread. This will work as it is the way I have backed up all my movies to date. I now prefer using the Demo versions of Nero as the DragN'Drop program does not have a good read buffer and leads to a lot of disc errors.
