24 hour DVD Fab copying? That's seriously wrong. With that and DVD Decrypter starting but crashing it's sounding like you have more than region issues with your DVD drive. I'd start by making sure it's not just a bad disc that DVD Fab is struggling with. If the disc is scratched, or maybe has some bad spots, DVD Fab may be hitting tons of read errors which is slowing it down. Definitely try ripping another disc, any DVD you have, to see what DVD Fab does with it. It should be 30 minutes at most. Don't even waste time trying to rip that 24hr disc now. If another disc gives you the same incredibly slow ripping speed then check your free hard drive space, available memory, check your system tray for what else is running, maybe defrag, run adaware, Spybot, the works. Also make sure DMA is turned on for your drive. Something else is wrong.
ohmss, Is DMA on, this can cause long running rips/burns, and other problems. Check here, http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf HTH, Rich
well, slightly over the top but it certainly took a while, I'd say a good 4 hours. I have dvdfab gold, could that be it?
If you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your Laptop try sytyguy's link to check your DMA, if you don't have a .pdf reader installed try this link: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44808 Even 4 hours is way too long.
Gone into Device Manager to check DMA (not sure what that is) In advanced settings it said transfer mode - dma if available current transfer mode -ultra dma mode 5. Below that it said transfer mode - dma if available Current transfer mode - ultra mode 2 Should I do anything with this? I'm currently burning a movie I got from Bearshare and it states time remaining over 2hrs
Your DMA looks good. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers did you check both your Primary and Secondary channels? Assuming your DMA is OK... How much memory do you have, and how much free disk space is on your hard drive? Right click My Computer, properties to check your memory. In Windows Explorer right click your C drive to check free disk space.
what are your system specs??? processor, ram, [bold]free drive space[/bold] and any other specs you believe may be of importance! dvddecrypter was probably using the same sata path as another device that is the only way the buffer will react while in file mode which it sounds like because of your device manger settings if your drive is the primary then >>>don't use the secondary at all<<< and vice versa! try using again and not doing anything while you decrypt ie..make sure all virus software is disabled, go offline, don't even look at it! til it play's you it's little jingle! then use shrink to encode should be faster, freer(is that a word??)and better quality! I'm not actually sure of the gold edition of dvd fab's encode times but they are dependant on your system so there may be nothing wrong w/ it! but like I said for transcoding shrink has yet to be bested in my book! *edited due to fat fingers*
Hi Moonrocks, 504mb of ram, is that the memory. With regards to free space, I have over 40gb from 80gb left
your system specs are fine for encoding! you dma (direct memory access) is set! have you tried decrypter in the manner that I mentioned?
Well, your memory and drive space is enough so it shouldn't be slowing you down to 4 hours to rip. As L8ter says, make sure all virus software is off, don't do anything else, while you rip. I've never used DVD Fab Gold, but I have used the free Express version, but I just can't imagine it would take 4 hours to rip a DVD. I'd probably go back to Decrypter and see if you can get that running. It's such a good ripper. Otherwise, try the Express version of DVD Fab. At this point I'm just not sure what's causing your problem.
Thanks guys for all your help. I just got DVDFab Express so I'll see how that is. I've also just found that Bearshare has a adware that installs with it called "whenusave". I tryed getting rid of that and Icouldn't because it would delete Bearshare. I think I might go to Toy's R Us here in Sunny England and get a kids Leapfrog Laptop age's 4-9 years, that should be quicker and easier
also copy/paste your drive info from dvddecrypter and I will searhc for you a region free firmware alot of drives have patched firmware to make your drive region free!
Here is the drive info - Mashita UJ-840D 1.03 I've looked for something to flash my drive but with the knowledge I have I'm safer to leave it alone
your write I'm having trouble finding any listed firmware for your drive! seems sony has quit using it and there firmware is the only one that is compatable! everything I read said that cross flashing will destroy this drive! have you checked the vaio update most vaio's have a update Icon that pop's up every time you start-up there will be an icon in the tool bar that will take you to an update in the sony support site just for your model lap-top! latest update is the last you will get! on the other topic I'm guessing you are running a 1.8ghz or similar so your times are not as bad as they seem close to normal! you can try to get decrypter shrink combo going or try dvdfabdecrypter w/ shrink I'm sure your times will come down w/ shrink google for dvdfabdecrypter !
Thanks for your help Mate, I'm sure I'll resolve the issue someday before the end of time or maybe go back to vhs. I'll let you know. Cheers
I used to B**** about the vhs how they would stretch and distort picture in about a year or so! now that I have two little munchkins running around and dvd's I'm lucky if a dvd see's next month! good luck and come visit us if you ever need any failed assistance again lol ;-} or to chat! seethesig! l8ter!
Hey Guys, just thought I'd try decrypter again and this was the message I got E 04:00:15 Failed to read Sector 140065 - Media Region Code is Mismatched to Logical Unit Region I have no idea, you?
That looks like it is good to go. Don't know why it is taking so long to rip/burn a DVD disc? Wonders never cease, Rich
Well, it looks like you're back to the original problem. Seems it's complainig that the region code on the disc isn't matching your DVD drive's region. Try this, open DVD Decrypter, in Tools, Settings, General, RCE protection region set the region to 1 (that's what your drive is). Make sure "remove IFO/BUP RCE protection" is selected. Then try to rip again.
Alright Mate I'll try that. At the moment I'm having a go with DVDFAB Gold. When thats finished I'll give it a try. Its been running now for about 30 mins and its not even a quarter of the way. I'll let you know how I got on tomorrow as its bloody 5am over here, time for bed. Cheers for all your help
