Ran DVDFAB Gold and it copied files to hardrive. I then copied to DVD- and placed in dvd player. The player recognised that there was a dvd in there and played, the only problem was there was no picture or sound. There was 1hr46min on the disc, I don't understand why this is. I then tryed DVDFab Express which said time remaining to rip over 500 mins (8hrs+). I have no idea what I'm doing wrong

I'm not sure what is going on w/ the all inclusive version of fabgold/express maybe a user of that one will come along w/ a setting or something!

does the disk play in your p.c. and what is displayed when viewing the content's of the fab disk when looking in my computer ie..what format, file type is shown?

this was found at the bottom of the DVD Region+CSS Freeinfo page so it' looks as if son't has gone to great links to make sure your drive is not unlockable

notice I said sony not matshita or panasonic as there are other matshita drives that are perfectly flashable and are supported by this commercial software!

so it looks like your only option may be to work w/ the output of dvdfabgold til it works or get you a new lite-on or something!
usually you can find one in your neck of the woods or online for around 50us$

    ohmss,

The time-consuming ripping/burning is almost assurdly a DMA problem. Moonrocks asked, on checking if DMA is enabled on both Primary and Secondary channels, and you never responded? I believe the info you gave was for your Primary channels, which normally are your hard drives.

Please go check both channels, and report back.

    TIA,

    Rich

I've gone into Device Manager, then clicked on IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS. Then I clicked Primary IDE CHANNEL. Now what am I looking for? Sorry Guys for being a pain

If I have gone the correct path, they both say DMA if available

You mean to check for DMA, I hope?

    If so,

    1. go to Device Manager
    2. select the + sign on IDE ATA/ATAPI ADAPTERS
    3. double click on Secondary IDE Controller
    4. select tab that says Advance Settings
    5. inform us what it says in "Current Transfer Mode" in both Device 0 and Device 1

    Good luck,

    Rich

    Device 0
Current transfer mode - ultra dma mode 5
    Device 1
Current transfer mode - ultra dma mode 2

I also checked my CPU Usage, that's hovering between 5 - 15%, that doesn't seem very good

Based on that, you only have one harddisk and one dvd drive, correct?
And they are on the same controller, yikes. You need to get another cable, and place your dvd burner on the other controller (secondary). That should speed up your ripping/burning speed, substantially. I don't remember rather or not you are running on a laptop, if not, I would purchase a DVD-ROM drive and place it on the secondary controller with your burner This will make ripping/burning much easier with no interruptions, depending on what software you are using.

    HTH,

    Rich

Hi Rich, Yes I am running on a Laptop, Sony Vaio VGNFS640/W. I don't know if you know anything about this particular model, I've been told by people that its a nice piece of gear, but I don't know.

Well, I am at a loss. Running your DVD drive on the 2nd controller would help, but your outlandish rip/burn times should not be that high, regardless.

    Sorry,

    Rich

You need to terminate some of your apps, so as to free up memory, you are alittle short.

Also check out this thread, http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101267

You might want to slow your burn speed to 4x instead of 8x.

I am not sure about the media(may not be good media) you are using, check out this link,

    http://www.smartcomputing.com/techsupport/detail.aspx?guid=&ErrorID=22006

    Best regards,

    Rich

Actually, that media is not the best of media to use. Taiyo Yuden , Verbatium, MAXELL made in Japan, to name a few are amongst the best.

@ ohmss, I would remove the serial number from your log if I were you. Otherwise someone else could copy & paste it into their huge collection of Nero serial numbers! Those people do not buy nero, they use other peoples' numbers!

For which they should get their bottom spanked!

It starts with IC 83......., right at the top of the log!

    PS, Ta!

    ohmss,

Not sure who you were directing your question to, but in regards to your region problem, check out this link, they talk about DVDIdpro fixing it. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101267

Actually, some people fixed their problem by purchasing a different drive that was more accomdating to region codes.

    Good luck,

    Rich
