when terminating apps was refferenced he is saying not to multitask!

do not have your anti virus enabled while burning shut down everything in the tool box!

open up your task manager and shut down all applications! (not processes, applications) this will free up some of that memory which is very much needed!

slow it down no more than 4x!

also everything points me to believe there is a hardware conflict of some wires crossed or something!

Thanks guys, you have all been more then helpful. Back to my player being completely locked to Region 1 and not being able to play Region 2 dvd's. I just ran dvd43 to atleast be able to watch region 2 if I can't burn them. It showed the smiley face I guess its suppose to and stated dvd in the drive but still wouldn't play the region 2 disc. I think I'll get a new pc, bloody things only 6 months old and can't do anything. Well it switches on

Gosh ohmss, you do not need to replace your laptop, just replace the DVD burner, or get an external burner, but make sure it does not inhibit region code changes, and make sure it can booktype to DVD-ROM.

Actually, you could purchase an external case for about $20-$30, and get a Benq 1640 burner (about $40) that will do all of these requirements.

    Good luck,

    Rich

Rich, I think its got to be because the drive is completely locked to Region 1. If I had the option still of changing the Region I bet all the software I have been ateempting to use, Decrypter, dvd43 etc would probably work. What do you think, because of the locked drive?

I just went into My Computer and clicked on Hardware and noticed the following where it said all Disc drives
    Hitachi_ DK23FA-80 Disc drive
    Mashita UJ - 840D DVD/CD Rom
I presume the Mashita is the Burner but whats the Hitachi? Like I said before Guys, I am not computer literate and sooooo new to this. Sorry

The Hitachi_ DK23FA-80 is your harddrive, and unfortunately the MATSHITA burners, I have recently found out, have many problems with them, including your problem concerning region codes. That link above from cdfreaks, if you didn't read it, says ANYDVD does not work on that drive, but DVDinfpro, someone says fixed his region problem. So maybe your should try it, and he says to get the free version.

    Sorry about your problem,

    Rich

Sorry here also, for I have no idea what that app does, perhaps someone can chime in, either that or post another thread on that app.

Good luck, mate (you must be English?, yeah I figured that)

From viewing the DVDInfoPro homepage it looks like DVDInfoPro just gives you all the stats on your drive, read/write capabilities, region changes left etc., similar to Nero Info Tool. Seems like a nice app, but I don't see how it could get around the region problem of your drive. I've never used it so I can't say for sure what it's capable of.

However, after reading the cdfreaks link a few posts earlier I wouldn't be optimistic of any software workaround for your region problem. One of the developers from Slysoft gives a pretty grim picture of the Matshita drive. If it was me, I'd take sytyguy's advice and get another burner.

    ohmss,

Again, I say, just replace the drive (much cheaper than a laptop), but do some research on the drive you select, or come back here and perhaps we can advise you.

    Good luck,

    ohmss,

Did a little research over at cdfreaks, and the general consensus is slimtype(for laptops) burners are crap, so I would suggest to you to get an external USB DVD burner.

BTW, found a pretty good external burner, LG GSA-5163B.
And it supports bitsetting and can write DVD+R and DVD+R9 DL media with DVD-ROM book type. CDfreaks gave it their “Editors choice”.
No matter what drive you get, make sure you get quality media, and never burn at the highest rated speed, in fact, burn at 4X, although I burn at 8X, at all times, successfully. OH, $80US, give or take.

    HTH,

    Rich

    Good luck,

    Rich

Hi Guys, As you all know, I've been unable to copy Region 2 DVD'S on my Laptop because the drive is completely locked to Region 1, well so we believe this is the reason. Even with the apparently great DVD Decryptor I can't do it. I just read a thread about what software is needed to rip and it stated the following software you need.

    DVD Decrypter 3.1.0.0 or higher
    IFOEdit
    DVD Shrink
    VobBlanker
    FixVTS

All I have is Decryptor and Shrink, could this be the reason why I can't copy because I don't have any of the other software above. I hope it is

Not necessarily, the real problem is your MATSHITA burner. It is a crappy drive, so sorry, but that is the consensus over at CDfreaks, including one of the developers from Slysoft (ANYDVD, which can also change the region code, as I recall).

    Take the advice of others,

    Rich

all of the above mentioned software (anydvd,dvd43,decrypter)will ttake the region protection off of a file on your p.c.!
this way any disk's burned from that file will be! completely region free no limit's on where you can watch you movie(except maybe under water :-} )

your problem is getting your drive which is locked, we have figured out it is locked down harder than alcatraz! to read the dvd which hasn't had the region protection removed!

hmmm I would reccomend that you
1 buy a new drive incase you plan on buying movies from other countries all the time!

2 get a friend to let you use/patch his drive! so that it's region free or use one of his four region changes!

3 find creative way to acquire a region1 copy of this movie!

Hi All, If you remember I couldn't use Decryptor to copy Region 2 dvds. Well I'd thought I would try and copy one of my Region 1 dvd's to see if it wasn't the software. Well it copied the Region 1 no problem and stored it on my Hardrive although again I have another issue. The file has a Record now Icon so when clicked on it automatically goe's there to burn but is far to big to fit to my 4.7 DVD-R. I have tryed opening Shrink and open files but it can't locate it under my videos. What to do?

    ohmss,

Are saying that you cannot find the file that Decrypter placed on your HDD?

No Mate, the file has been stored under "My Videos" with a
"Record Now" icon. When clicked on it doesn't play it automatically goe's to burn with "Record Now". Its too big though for 4.7 DVD-R, so I tryed running it through Shrink, but when I clicked on open files it doesn't display the file under My Videos
