Wow! Just spent a lot of time trying to copy a DVD-R. Neither Burning Rom or Nero Express (Nero 7) will copy a DVD-R to a DVD+R! They refuse to write until a -R or -RW blank is loaded. I even kept the temporary NRG that was created from the original and tried to burn that onto a +R but that resulted in a ton of I/O errors. Very weird. I never would have guessed -R and +R were different in content. I am in the process of copying DVDs I made in the past onto DVDs that are printable so I can have nice labels. I guess I have to buy both DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs. .......w3rd Mostly just ranting, but if anyone knows how to copy a -R to a +R with Nero, please post it. TIA
Why not just use DVD Decrypter to rip in ISO read mode and then burn in ISO write mode? Are you sure you have a dual format burner?
Hi Yeah, printables look nice... You should be able to copy your films with Recode. Here have a go at this: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/316083 Made by yours trully.
Nice guide Permiggs.... I doubt that Recode will do the burning either as it's all powered by Nero Burning Rom.
Gwendolin, Thanks.I might try it if I don't find an easier way. Recode takes a lot more user input than Nero copy. Plus, I worry about clicking the wrong thing and having it also recode the content and hurt the PQ. LOCOENG, My burner is certified to burn both +Rs and -Rs and has done so without any coasters, on a regular basis. Decrypter sounds like a good idea. I haven't used the program before, but know I need it for some other projects. I'll try that and/or Recode after I try one more thing with Nero. I am trying a copy from -R to Image writer to see if that copy can be burned onto a DVD+R.
Thanks LOCO! You never know! We have a user that can do burns with Express but can't do it with Recode! How about that? @RLyon Recode is pretty easy to work with but you want to try Decrypter? Ok, here it is: To Rip: To Burn:
Sounds like that burner may have a firmware issue. You may have to update it to handle those +rs. What's the MID code for those dash r's and plus r's that you have?Use nero infotool. What's the brand name/model# and firmware version? Neroinfo tool will tell you that as well, just post back. I can either use nero's copy disc-on the fly,dvd decrypter Mode ISO/ sonic's copy disc-on the fly/or do a normal rip with dvd shrink and autoburn with nero. There's some key factors though,on backup discs that you want to re-rip later on: On the fly,you need a good reader and also a good writer. You want the first backup copies that you burn to be as error free as possible. Burning too fast/too slow/crap media/burn close to the outer edge/multi-tasking/sticker-paper labels/ are just a few things that can cause these little errors. Crap media will usually be the culprit. This makes re-ripping more difficult with a higher chance of getting crc errors. I have no trouble re-ripping my backups for extra copies,on the fly. I use quality media, and burn them to how the scan the best-with as little errors as possible.
Don't want to butt in but i copy -r t0 +r and +r to -r And all i use is nero express. Just click on copy entire disc.
Got pulled away but am back. Copying from the -R DVD to image writer and then burning that failed with the same errors as burinig directly to +R. Using DVD Decrypter worked fine. And does not take a lot of steps/keystrokes which is important because I have several to do. Thanks permiggs! FWIW: the -R media was LG brand MUST 003 (on sale sometime back). Not highly rated but I got no coaters out of the 50 count spindle. The +R I am burning to is MCC 004 from Verbatim (good reviews). I don't think the media is an issue. The drive is a NEC 2510A with most recent firmware (2.18). Likewise, I don't think the drive is the problem. It has burned numerous +Rs, -Rs and +RWs with no coasters (until trying to copy a -R to a +R) The PC is a 3Ghz P4 with 2GB RAM. The drives all have DMA on and the burner is running in UDMA2 mode. I don't think there are any issues there either. There have been some posts in different forums about IAA (Intel Application Accelerator) causing problems with earlier versions of Nero, so I even uninstalled IAA but Nero still wouldn't copy a DVD-R to a +R. My best guess is that this is a bug in Nero. The version of Nero I am running was just released a few days before the problem happened. Maybe its a bug that is new or only happens with a special combinations of circumstances. Another long shot is that the set-top burner (Liteon LVW-1105HC) that made the -R, does something unusual with the file structure that doesn't bother any other players or software but makes Nero choke (but ONLY when copying a -R to a +R). Not likely though since Nero playes the DVDs fine and even copies them from a -R to a -R just fine. But I like the DVD Decryptor method better than Nero anyway so I'm ok now. I'm just posting this in case someone else has the same problem. As to Nero Recode, I suspect it would work, but the guide linked to above and the documentation I've read all say or imply the video will be re-encoded and I don't want that. I am basing that on the fact that one of the user inputs is a quality level. Thanks all. It turns out my question was a bit misleading. I assumed there was an inherent problem copying DVD-R to +R which there obviolsly is not. Even Nero apparently works for most people most of the time.
Hi. Good to know you got it going fine. DVD decrypter IS still a very valid solution even tough it's no longer updated. In this case, since all you're burning are backups, you should have no real problems with it. Good luck and happy burning!
