    ok i tryed everyones ftp instructions that i can find here on the forums useing the "crossover cable method" and not a single one will work. it seems to me, it just cant be done, without some kind of internet connection. every time i have tryed my pc tells me that local area connection is unpluged. so without a internet connection it cant be done. im useing a CAD 6 crossover cable. and ive used smart ftp, cute ftp, bulletproof ftp,cerebus ftp and a connection just cannot be made. im acctually thinking right now that a cad6 cable wont work. could it be possible?..please somebody help me

    im assuming if your using a cross-over cable then your directly connecting to your pc...what homebrew dashboard are you using EvoX,UnleashedX. ect...? make sure everything is set to static and are you using FlashFXP seems to be the best my pc ip is 192.168.1.102 so my xbox ip is 192.168.1.103 just make sure everything is on the right connection trust me i thought it could not be done at one point in time to untill chunkhead kept telling me it can its just my settings were wrong follow chunk heads tutorial and then post what your settings are ok...

    well im useing the softmod kit called "krazie Ndure softmod pack" and when i installed it gave me 2 options for dashboards, evolution X or unleash X. i decided to use the unleash X, because i am new to this and it ws quite easy to do useing the splinter cell action replay method. and for my ftp setup on unleash X its
    type: ststic
    ip address:192.168.0.100
    subnet mask:255.255.255.0
    gateway:192.168.0.1
    dns #1 192.168.0.1
    dns #2 192.168.0.7
    and for server url on smartftp i use 192.168.0.100
    user name : xbox
    password : xbox
    port 21 then i click on connect and i get a message saying connection refused, will try again in 120 seconds..

    @ Norcross, you really are starting to get the swing of this... Good Stuff!!! ;)

    @ stryker69

    Your problem is exactly as Norcross suggested. Your PC and your Xbox are on different networks, you can't do that!

    Also, the PC IP Address that you posted is invalid. You can only have a home\internal network on a select number range...

    There are three blocks of private IP addresses:

    * 10.0.0.0 through 10.255.255.255
    * 172.16.0.0 through 172.31.255.255
    * 192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.255

    Have a look at my tutorials to learn how to change your PC address, but for simplicity, I'd just change the Xbox to match the PC current config!

    Press your "Windows button" and the "R" key at the same time, type 'cmd' and then type 'ipconfig /all'. That will give you the current IP address of your PC. Add one number to that and give it to the Xbox. You do not need DNS addresses.

    Cat-6 is a cable type. It's just a higher spec cable with more twists. RJ-45 is the plastic connector at the end of the cable, both Cat-5 and Cat-6 use RJ-45.

    Show me the readouts of your config (ip addresses, etc.)

    No, I've no idea where your getting that info from.

    Use the 'ipconfig /all' in cmd to get one of these...

    Hmm, that's just all wrong!

    Use my guide on how to set a static IP address for your PC. Use the addresses:

    PC = 192.168.0.2
    Xbox = 192.168.0.3
    Router\modem = 192.168.0.1

    Subnet Mask for all three is 255.255.255.0

    Your ISP has nothing to do with your internal network settings!

    The address you gave me is the external IP address (Internet address). Did you use the 'ipconfig'???

    Ok...

    For the moment, we'll concentrate on getting you up and running!

    Which configuration are you running? They're about halfway down...
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/523607#3165659

    Let's make:
    Xbox IP Address - 68.53.207.120

    Subnet mask - 255.255.248.0

    I'm still stumped as to why your LAN is subnetted and using internet addressing!
