    I need some help and guidance on how I can transfer or capture video from my old SONY Camcorder (DCR-TRV-120) into an older iMAC (2010 OS High Sierra 10.13.6), please.

    I have a connection cable from my Camcorder to iMAC (via either Firewire or USB.

    Nothing seems to work. Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    No progress. I have an old Imac running High Sierra and doesnt have Imovie.

    I think I need to have 2 adaptors;

    One which has 400 to 800 firewire adaptor.

    2nd one i need is to take the firewire from above and convert to Thunderbolt.

    Even though I have firewire port on my old imac, no software recognizes the video camera.

    Any other guide or help would be appreciated.

    Your firewire cable should have a 4 pin connector for connecting to the camera and a 6 pin connector for connecting to your iMac. I don't know why you would need an adapter. Does your computer have Thunderbolt?

    You can download iMovie for a MAC from here-

    https://ccm.net/download/download-1238-imovie

    and a number of other places.

    What other software have you tried?

    Since i have a very old iMac (Mid 2010) with 10.13.6 High Sierra OS, the link for that iMovie will not work since it requires a higher OS.

    I have tried connecting to the iMac using USB, and Firewire but no luck. The computer does not recognize the camera.

    It has the following ports at the back;
    Audio Out
    Audio In
    4 USB Ports
    Firewire 800
    Mini Display Port
    Ethernet

    So I got an adaptor to connect to the Firewire 800 from Sony DCR TRV-120, but none of the software will recognize the camera.

    I have tried a version of iMovie (not sure how I got it installed); this crashes often
    Davinci Resolve
    VLC

    The issue is that I have so many DV Tapes from my sony I would like to convert to DVD, plus I would like to use my Camcorder to capture more videos instead of buying a new one. It works really well.

    Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Thank You

    Whatever software you use, it must have a Capture feature in order to see the imput from your camera. I don't think that the VLC Player for Mac will work unless you have a capture card. Based on the date of your computer, I suggest downloading iMovie 9 from here- https://www.wondershare.com/imovie/imovie-download.html#part2
