    Speakers:
Without a doubt, Raindow and Bouston Acoustics make the best Car Audio speakers....Rainbow is way out in front. If you havent heard of Rainbow its probably cuz you've set your budget too low lol.

    Subs:
Pheonix Gold range and JL make the best subs by a mile. Rockford Fosgate would probably come in after these two with some of the JBL and Bouston Acoustics coming after them. MTX make some decent subs as well, as do Alpine and Pioneer. To be honest, although Infinity make decent component sets and 5x7's, their sub range isnt too hot.

    Amplifiers:
Usual suspects of Rockford Fosgate, Tru Technology, Boston Acoustics, Butler Audio and Polk, all come in top of the range for two channel amps. Although, Tru Technology are by far the more expensive, i personally think that Rockford Fosgate and Boston Acoustics are the leaders of the packs. The same is true for four channel amps, with JL coming into the top 5 or so as well, but ROckford and Boston still are the leaders, with Tru not far behind.
Genesis, JBL, Rockford Fosgate, Boston Acoustics and Tru Technology are top of the mono range designed for power subs...

    In Car DVD/TV:
In terms of all-in-one packages, the Alpine and Pioneers are market leaders by a long way. Kenwood are doing some decent ones, as are Blaupunkt and Panasonic, but the market is owned by Alpine and Pioneer.

    In Car Navigation:
Pioneer, Pioneer, and Pioneer rule in this category. They have won every award for their AVIC X1 series in car Sat Nav, with DVD player and 6.5" TFT. No one has a better all-in-one system....

    Head-units:
Although a few people here believe that Alpine are top of the range in terms of Head-units, i strongly disagree. Id put Pioneer top, as would most in-car audiophiles....Alpine are decent, but JVC make some decent head-units that more than hold their own in comparison.

So to summarise, Pioneer are top for most of the non-speaker orientated hardware. They do make some decent speakers and subs, but they dont compare to other competitors out there.

    Anyone disagree....
    Chris

yeah, sometimes my eyeballs too. I can make a soda in my cupholder flat in a matter of minutes, and a full can of soda will spin in the cupholder. I can put out lighters, and best of all, I can shut people up when I feel like it in my car.

I have a 97 Camaro and I'm thinking now i need to upgrade from stock, one of my friends says polk is what i should get (what he has). I like them, they're nice but i think i could get better.

Any specific recomindations? Or sites that can recommend me things?
If I get anything most likely I'll be getting it off the internet, ebay and such. Also any good audio sites to purchase things from would be helpfull.

I was thinking of going with a pioneer head unit, nothing to big though.
Possibly Boston Acoustic or maybe Polk DB.
Amp, phionex gold looks to be a good choice, depending on price... what are others that are good?
For sub I kinda like rockford fosgate, and a guy near me at school had infinity which sounded nice also.

Any specific models? I think mine are 7 or 6 and a half, plus if I were to get a sub where should I get a box I've seen a variety of sub boxes for camaros...

a 97 Camaro huh? I'm guessing you have very little trunk space, so keep that in mind. Here's what I'd do:

1 JL W7 10 inch. Get a nice amp that does about 600-700 watts @ 2 ohms mono and a capacitor (1 farad will do) and some better interior speakers to top it off nice. http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/w7.html

As far as head units I'm really fond of Alpine. I've also had Eclipse, Clarion and Rockford Fosgate. Definitely go with something that has at least 4V Pre-amp outputs, subwoofer control is also nice.

I have a Jimmy, the only things running in there are Rockford and Kicker.

I have a P8002 Rockford 2 channel amp rated at 250rms watts per chan.
Two 10" HE2 Rockford subs. unsure of the rms (10" cuz the bass sounds better when it keeps up to the song).
A T4004 4 channel amp rated at 85rms watts per chan.
I have four 6" speakers 1 in each door, they are the Kicker KS60 rated at 65rms watts each and two 4x6" Kicker KS46 speakers 30rms watts each.
Might not be competition, but sure sounds good in a 4 door SUV
No point in spending a fortune in something thats out-dated 2 years later.

ok i have a 2000 ford F-150 and i need speakers for the front and speakers for the read. The size is 5x7 for front and rear. I want to go with components in the front and coaxil in the rear. Can anyone help me with a good setup. I want it to sound nice and clean with great sounds.

Personally, id get Infinity 5x7 in the front and rear, and then get yourself a decent sub and box. Power the Infinit from a decent Amp, an dpower the Sub from a Bridged 2 way amp.

interior speakers sound much better with an amp hooked up to them. Nothing huge, but a good quality amp. Like 75-100x4 should be a decent one.

So would you go with components in the fron and coaxil in the rear? Or all coaxil?

I am not worried on the money of this but i do want great sounds of the highs and mids. I will worry on the sub at a later time. But as for now i dont want a sub to take up my extended cab.

    Cheers

The only way you are going to get a truely dynamic sound is through fitting a sub, be it a small 8" woofer somewhere, like under the front passenger seat.

The component setup is an excellent way to go, and if money is too much of an issue, get yourself a set of Polk 17cm components with tweeters and crossovers and you will be sorted. If you are going to put component in the front, id tend to put them in the back as well.

Its important that you have a decent amp to drive the speakers as well....ideally not from a headunit unless it is 50+ MOSFET RMS amplification.

"Ok. here's how it is. I own a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer GLI coupe and I wanna win a local sound off. What systems and setups do you guys recommend?"

My recommendation? A big f**k off one.

Preferably one that has to be powered by a pocket sized thermal nuclear device.

yeah you're gonna need a MUCH bigger car to win a sound contest. I used to know a guy who worked for Cerwin Vega (before they went out of business) and he had a chevy van with 8, yes EIGHT 18" stroker subs in it. Holy sh*t you could here him coming for at least five blocks away.

ever heard a car with 12 8" subs in it? Get enough 8's and you can move some major air. Plus they do better with higher frequency bass, which takes less power to create.

i will never own anything but an xtant amplifier again. i have a 4x100 watt xtant amp. i replaced my sony with it when i burned it up(sony is the worst car audio i've ever owned),everything else is the same.the sony was allegedly 1200 watts(600 rms)at 2 ohms and the xtant is far superior in every way.i run 2 12's and infinity separates with it and 400 watts(only 100 watts to each 12)sets off alarms all day long. i'm amazed everytime i roll down the street.i have a panasonic deck which i would not reccomend though. it's the second worst deck i've owned(next to sony). i did have jl 12's but my 2 year old put holes in them so i ran out and bought something just to get some sound until i could get some decent subs,so i bought p. miller 12's on sale for 100 dollars and i won't change them until they blow.they have out performed anything i have ever had.my preference is jl but for the price the p. millers are great.my whole system cost around 900 dollars and out performs my last system(around 1800 dollars)by leaps and bounds.i'll be pissing people off and paying noise ordinance tickets(3 already)all summer.my2cents
