Hi there, this is my first post. I have recently been having problems burning CD-Rs with my NEC ND-1100A. It worked fine for a while but now for some reason whenever i try to burn a CD the tray opens and tells me to insert a blank disc even tho there is already a disc in it. I have tried discs that have worked previously but no joy. (it still burns DVD-Rs perfectly tho) Any help would be appreciated thanx.

Thats a new one on me what software are you using ? are you trying to burn a audio cd when it happens ? Does it only do it on 1 specific software have you tried any other software to see if it does it ?

Did you check in Nero 6 -- The Nero Tool Kit -- it has an Info tool that may show if your drive is being recognized and the configuration Tab will approved the ASPI layer installation. You can also simulate a burn and log your result so they can be pasted on the thread -- do not forget to remove your personal serial number prior to posting ~~ smiles.

In order to get some help in this Forum , you will have to provide details -- it is hardly possible for anyone in here to guess what is wrong without details.

You will have to forgive my stupidity but im a novice pc user. How do i do a sample burn? I have figured out it isnt the type of disc i am using as my friend has the same writer and he got it at the same time as me but the discs i was trying to use burn fine for him so either there is something wrong with the settings or the lens may be dirty or damaged.(could that be it) although it still seems to burn DVDs fine. The drive wont even read CDs that i have burnt previously

Also i checked the ASPI and both the system and Nero ASPI are installed and working properly

When you start Nero Burning Rom -- Select CD -- choose the appropriate Icon on Left which depicts what you want to do (( Example Audio CD) Look for the TAB BURN and tick simulation only.

Use Nero Buring Rom, not Nero Express for your audio backup(s). Try different brand name media if Nero fails to recognize brand name media. Experiment with other free burning programs like burnatonce or DeepBurner and see if you encounter the same error.

    burnatonce

    DeepBurner

still no luck im afraid. It is very strange but the writer is sometimes recognising a backup disc that i have burnt with it but other times it wont recognise it. does the burn use a different lens for reading dvds and cds. if so might it just be needing a clean. Do you get special lens cleaners for DVD burners
