SOmewone please help before I go mad! This thing is driving me crazy!

I have a laptop that was running on windows 98. I had a Philips DVDRW416 installed via a USB ENclosure. I could play dvd'd, burn dvd's etc. It was great.....but i decided to upgrade my machine to windows 2000. It wouldn't recognise the dvdrw416 so i decided to go back to windows 98. Everything seems to have loaded up fine but when i put a disc into my DVDRW416 it tries to read it for a couple of seconds....makes a few clicking noises usualy abour 3 and stops. The DVDRW416 is in device manager and the properties say it is working perfectly...even the Philips diagnostic says it is installed correctly.

I noticed the little plastic bit at the back was missing I stuck another one on I think on the slave setting....could this be my problem. I have tried in all 3 different slots but no luck......

Guys I really need some help on this one......

    thanks,

    Barry

try putting the jumper to CS (cable select) and uninstall/restart and Plug n Play should pick it up.
