change audio volume in video file

    the kids watch movies on there portable dvd players but there seems to be a small problem with the audio volume on these players,
    there much to quite, what software can i use to increase the volume on the file?
    preferably something thats quick and easy to use.

    They either aren't selecting 2 channel audio stream (stereo) assuming the dvd has two audio streams (the other will be 5:1 which appears to have a lower volume like your experiencing) or you need to rip the dvd & downmix the audio to stereo or mp3 or increase the audio gain,well thats all i can come up with as to why

    there isnt any choice on the dvd players for audio,

    is there not some software i can run the xvid files through and increase the volume whilst keeping picture quality?

    VirtualDub, load/drag-in avi file.
    Click Audio > Full processing mode.
    Click Audio > Volume.
    Check the box and bump the volume up (300%) OK.

    Click on the 'Output' playback button (bottom left, second triangley thing).
    If satisfied, click Audio > Compression and select a codec (Lame MP3 48000, 128,cbr) stereo.
    Click Video > Direct stream copy.
    Click File > Save as avi.
