change from letterbox format

    I am transfering some old movies on vhs to dvd and was wondering if it is possible to change the viewing format from widescreen (with the black bands top and bottom) to regular tv shape (4:3?)

    anyone point me in the right direction?

    You can But it is NOT adviseable because to do it and keep the correct aspect ratio you will have to Crop a Bunch of Video off of the Sides of the Frame which will Look Much worse than the Letterboxed effect....
