The most popular option seems to be the R4 revolution card which is around $41-45 with shipping at most places.

Add to this a 1gb or 2gb microsd card ($10-25)

And we come to a total around ~$55

Instead of the R4, what is the cheapest solution that will allow me to do basically the same thing the R4 allows (namely, play NDS files). Is there anything that can do it for like ~$25-$35 and has built in 1gb flash?

If there is a cheaper way I haven't seen it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I haven't seen it.

The M3 Simply thing is more expensive. The DS Extreme thing is way more expensive. I purchased an R4 yesterday because it looked to me like the easiest, most robust, and least expensive way to go.

I am hoping to put music and vidoes on the insertable microcards and turn the DS into an MP3 and movie player.

there are other flashcards like G6, easyflash V or something like that, and a lot more. im not sure if it'll be cheaper or more expensive, that depends on the website. Dealextreme.com has many flashcards and sell them too. so you can start there, and if you find one you want, try googling it for cheaper prices if you see one.

Unfortunetly you missed out on the R4 SuperZi, it had been about $30 on dealextreme up till about 6 weeks ago.

for $30 with built in flash you can get a DS Fire Card or an N-Card
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2069
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2981

These are basically the same device with different stickers on them, there are several other idenitcal devices with other names, but they are all the same and can run each others firmware.

If you want 2GB inbuilt memory theres a DS Linker for $50
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4276
I think this is another of the n-card clones, just with a different sticker.

    mr_hanky,

Do you know if its possible to use R4 firmware on DS Fire or the N-Card?

They seem to be a pretty good deal since they include the memory, and plus since the memory is in Slot-2 it will also allow running GBA roms, whereas the R4 has only Slot-1 and u need a seperate expansion in gba slot to play gba roms.

Also, how long does it usually take to receive something from dealextreme? I live in east-coast USA.

I'm surprised you're even going to be able to get it in the US. Those damn raids.

Let me note: Max Media + Memory = More than you're talking about.

    Datel is crazy. :(

I'm buying a passcard, which I believe is around 20 bucks. You can get a flash card on ebay for cheap (it's what I did). I also just download g6. So in total, everything will coast about 30 bucks without shipping.

No you can't, you can only use the firmware from the n-card and any clones of it.

Actually the memory is in slot-1, it cannot play GBA games, the slot-2 part is usb linker so you can copy games onto the slot-1 card, you only have it connected to the ds when you want to sopy over games to the slot-1 card.

It takes about 2 weeks, which is quite a while, but you have to bear in mind that it is free shipping, and your unlikly to find these cheaper anywhere else.

Do you think it'll even get there?

I had thought about ordering from them but I'm afraid about the Modchip raids.

FlashCarts aren't considered modchips, what are you talking about? Just get a Kingston bundle from Dealextreme and you're set.

    That's so weird!

My friend told me he searched for a few hours just trying to find an online store which sold an R4! Said he found nothing...

But yeah, you're completely right, Flashcarts don't count...

Bah, now I want an R4...

    Praise God...

Is it any problem AT ALL with the law to get an R4? If I can get enough money, I'll probably get one. Stupid MMD...

    I'm being sarcastic. :p
It isn't labeled as an illegal item, not legal, but not illegal either.

God damn it! I need more sleep. :p

Yeah, thankfully DS hacking (Flashing. ;D) isn't as high-key as Xbox hacking OR PSP HACKING. Let's try to keep it that way. >_>
