JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW OUT THERE IS NO CLONE SAFE STARVIEW 1 FIRMWARE OUT THERE ANYWHERE THERE IS A FAKE FILE RENAMED AS CLONE SAFE THAT IS ALL IT IS THE V4.00 RENAMED AND THE TUT HAS ALSO BEEN EDITED TO BRING THE AUTHOR OF THE NEW FIXED V4.01 DOWN SO YOU ALL KNOW NOW IF YOU USE THIS FILE YOUR BOX WILL DIE IF YOU PUT ON A CLONE BOX

AS YOU ARE ALL AWARE I HAVE STOPPED POSTING ON HERE BUT I HAVE MADE AN EXCEPTION TO THIS AS I DONT WANT YOUR CLONE BOXES AS DOOR STOPPERS

THE PROCESSOR SPEED IN A CLONE BOX RUNS AT 65 MHZ THE GENUINE BOX RUNS AT 85MHZ THAT IS WHY THEY DIE AND NOBODY IS TELLING THEM TO BUY NEW BOXES THE V4.01 WILL WORK ON A CLONE MIGHT BE A DAY MIGHT BE A MONTH BUT BELIVE ME IT WILL DIE

WE WENT THRU ALL THIS LAST YEAR WITH ALL THE CLONES DYING AFTER A MONTH OR SO

IF YOU DO PUT IT ON YOU HAVE ONLY YOURSELVES TO BLAME WE ON HERE DO NOT MAKE NOTHING FROM THIS ALL WE CAN DO IS ADVISE YOU IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO NEWBIES THAT ARE ONLY ON HERE A WET DAY

TELLING YOU TO PUT THE CLONE SAFE FIRMWARE ON YOUR BOX OFF YOU GO WHEN YOU HAVE A DOOR STOPPER WILL THAT NEWBIE GET YOU A NEW BOX OR REPAIR IT FOR YOU WILL HE EVEN BE HERE

I WILL VERY MUCH DOUBT IT SO THE REST IS UP TO YOU THE WARNING IS THERE FOR YOU TO TAKE OR DISMISS ALL THE AFTER DAWN ADDICT HAVE NEVER STEERED ANYBODY WRONG ON HERE SO FAR SO WHY SHOULD THEY START NOW THINK ABOUT IT

And there you go people, from a very reliable source to say the very least - all at your own risk. so I think we should forget about that particular subject for now at least.

    CLONED SVIEW dead:

I recently downloaded the file "thebox_UK_H20070709_451eE_api.bin" to my cloned (I have since discovered) Starview box.

After downloading the bin file, the box has frozen - with just one green light on. I have tried powering off etc - but no success. Will the approach in using "http://rapidshare.com/files/106508786/clone_safeautoroll.rar" work on my problem?
    Cheers TONY

Is it a clone starview 1 or is Starview 2 Thebox - which.

Tony, Read the post above from fergusrb regarding that firmware you have quoted - that is the one to beware of.
You would be wise to flash back to your previous firmware.

    You might be right.
Totally new to this but bought a starview of a friend of friend only 2 months ago. Like everyone last couple of weeks I have to manually update the codes. I was wanting to update the software so the box would auto-roll. Based on all the excellent posts and advice on this site I was able to work out I definately have a clone. Interesting but the carboard packing and the remote looked like genuine. But the no of vents and a look inside told me its definately a clone. (Though the heat sink is different than the clone pics you can find on here).
So whats confusing me is this is definately a clone but I got it as new and the system info shows me STAR View API ver :4.00e_E boot ver:7.0 7.jun 2007.
By all accounts reading through all ther forums here this box shouldn't work with this firmware.I havn't had it that long so maybe the writing could be an the wall for this box soon?? Or maybe hp4020 is correct and there are newer version 4 clones out there that can cope with version 4?

Given the box was already running version 4 I figured I had nothing to lose and updated the .bin file (the CryptStar-v1.4-Core400.bin for version 4 genuine boxes) yesterday. So far so good. Codes rolled last night and the box auto updated very quickly, it was really sweet.

Note I don't recommend going agaist the advice of the experienced guys on here, who clearly advise against updating the clones, I only did this seen as the box was given to me already using version 4 firmware, and its a pain in the a*** updating the codes all the time
If the box goes dead soon I only have myself to blame.

    Thanks for the advice.
Malcie - The box appears to be a Starview Clone - not "thebox"

I have reflashed with the 4.00 June 7 Firmware and at least my box now works. However, I am unable to unscramble channels though. Have even entered the codes listed here - done the EMU bit - still all scrambled.
    Thoughts anyone?

The codes changed this morning - what is your area and provider, because it will not update the key's you will have to enter them manually to get your channels back on.

NULL MODEM CABLE DB9F to DB9F
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=L71BT&DOY=2m6

If your pc does not have a serial port you will need a USB to serial port adapter to use in conjunction with the null modem cable.

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=29968&doy=14m4

These two cable links are only for reference as they can be purchased a lot cheaper on fleabay.

    Updating Firmware

Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY.
(The Starview does not need to be connected to TV to power only to update it with GTROM)

Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT that matches the one that is being used.

Make sure App file only is selected, then click BIN FILE Tab & browse to the firmware where you downloaded it to on your PC. Double click the bin file and it will appear in the BIN FILE box
Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase then Download completed message on your PC.

Wait/wait until you see the DOWNLOAD SUCCESSFUL pop up box on your PC the Starview will then reboot - Now you can remove the NULL MODEM CABLE.
Disconnect from PC and connect back up to the TV

    If using a USB Adaptor
Did you set the port number correctly on the PC?
    Do the following.

    START
    Right Click "MY COMPUTER"
    Choose "MANAGE"
In the resulting window, click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
In the right hand pane, click on the little plus sign beside "PORTS" in the right hand pane.
Right click on the USB Adapter (Should be something like "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm. Port (COM#)
    Choose "Properties"
    Click on "PORT SETTINGS" TAB
    Click on "ADVANCED"
Then you will see the COM Port Number Box. You should be able to change it there using the drop down box.
Try to set it to COM2
    Restart Windows

Set the transfer Software to COM2 & try to connect.

If that fails try another port number

    Provider ID/s

    N*L 54 01
    CHOR*S 5E 01
    Ex C&W 5C 01
    T/West 5A 01
