Hmmm. What format are the movies you have successfully burnt?

Also, are the disks that have been spit out this way ruined? Most of mine seem like they are still fine, but a couple the drive acts like it is trying to read, so I assume they are no good...

This is an expensive trial and error process!

Have you been able to use any other software to burn a DVD?

    i've burned 2 dvd9's successfully..
as for the disks, yup they're ruined i suggest maybe getting a couple of RW's..
i've been trying other software but none of it has worked either so i don't know what the hell is preventing it from burning (i'm still trying)

It's not the software. Successfully backed up Chronicles of Riddick using AnyDVD 4.1.1.2 and CloneDVD2 2.5.3.3

Uh, I didn't know you were having problems, Flip218...

You are using the Mad Dog MD16XDVD9EXT?

I have now successfully burned a CD-R, the first I tried. Fast, too. 48x. But the point of the thing is DVD's!

    :^(

This is the response I got from Mad Dog tech support. I haven't replied yet:

Are you able to burn CD-Rs? For burning DVD, we recommend you need to have the full version of Nero software.

I'm not ... I successfully backed up Chronicles of Riddick using the newest versions of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. Wanted to mearly show it's not the software.

    @animedvds,

Second copy ... burning video_ts file with CloneDVD2 worked as well. I think you either have a hardware problem or a conflicting software. I would lean towards hardware.

Well I just ordered the new Plextor 716 ... once I get my rebate it will run me $120

I've had good luck with NEC burners. You can get a one for a good price from newegg.com

But if I were you, and you lived in the states ... go to BestBuy and buy one from there. This way you can test the burner, if it still doesn't work you can bring it back for a full refund with in 7 days for a full refund. If it doens't work, it will rule out your burner :)

I think its gotta be some kind of driver conflict issue thing...

    I'm not sure.

The version of Nero I got with the burner does not even have an option to burn DVD's, unless I am not seeing it or I did not install it properly? How about yours?

Well, unfortunately, I did not get the extended warranty, and I think they only accept returns after 14 days. Any experience with this?

I have now had success burning DVD-R's with Nero 6. This wasn't working either, initially, and I was getting a [bold]"SCSI command aborted"[/bold] error. I finally was able to do it by doing this:

Can a few of you test to see if this issue is resolved for you if you Launch Nero Burning ROM and go to Recorder->Choose Recorder and click on the OPTIONS button in the bottom left of the window and then uncheck the option for 'DVD High Compatibility Mode' and see if this now resolves your issue.

I've had 3 out of 7 users try this with success.

Here's the link to the above thread:
    [bold]http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/102002[/bold]

I think this issue with Nero is related to the issue with CloneDVD2, as the timing of this error is very similiar with the two programs. Let me know if this helps.

If you've already sent your Mad Dog burner off for replacement, let me know about your experience with the new one, and if you have these problems.

    Thanks,
    Muddy

Oops. I see you returned the Mad Dog. Someone on another forum got Mad Dog to send them an exchange for the same model which is now in a different enclosure...
