hey im a noob at this like no other and i hope some one can help me. My xbox was great then i had do mess with it. (my fault) But like a good little boy i did my research but i never looked into this part of it. I forgot to ftp the box and so when i wash playing around with unleashx i deleted the dashboard and now the hard drive is gone im getting a error 16 which is for the dashboard not being there(or it's cuz it can get to the clock set on the dashboard) so i had an old hard drive thats a 10gig and i thought i could place the files on it and insert it into my xbox and be back up and running. but an ways this is what i want to know.

1: did i mess up so bbad that i can't go back
2: is there any one out there that can send me or tell me where to get the files so i can put them on the new hard drive so i can just pop it back in and go
3: can i just take somthing like xbmc and place the files on a xbox and be good to go from there
4: can some one help me

oh and by the way no i can't hot swap it cuz the other drive won't unlock and i tried it a few dozen times and it won't boot into a game cuz of the cloth issue

sorry to be a pain in the rump but also is there any program that any one can tell me how to figure out the eeprom on the hard drive or anything that can get rid of the password on it so i can fix it and then put the password back with connecting it to the xbox and shutting it off. wow sorry for the run on sentance.

oh and can any one tell me if the hard drive has to be locked for the xbox to still work

Alright let me get this straight...

Before you said you had an error 16, which is easy to fix. Now you're saying that the microsoft logo doesn't come up, that's impossible unless it's flashed or chiped.

The xbox needs the hard drive locked to boot, upon booting the eeprom will unlock the hard drive so the xbox can read it. It's also in FATX format. Windows won't see this becuase it can't read fatx.

Anyway i think i need more info before even attempting to help you out on this. Also you seriously need to read the links i gave you, it explains how all this works and how to fix it. The info is laid out in front of you and you're looking the in other direction.

If i were you i would attempt a hotswap once again and use xplorer360 to modify your dash files (you can get that here).

If that didn't work i would make a eeprom reader (here) and get the eeprom off your xbox, then make a xboxhdm cd (here) and attempt to unlock the hard drive. Then use xplorer360 or xboxhdm to fix your dash files.

okay the reason i didn't read them was because i already ran into them over and over. let me give you an update on the situation.

i took my buddies xbox and now i have the partitions and all there files that make up the hard drive. However from what i understand i can't just take a unused hard drive compy the files and boom i'm good. i have to lock it. so what i need to do is get the eeprom of the motherboard but i don't have any old sdram and that eeprom reader i tried and failed. atleast thats theres a scrap pile on my girlfriends desk that will be going out in the morning to a garbage truck. so all that set aside is there any way that i can retrieve that eeprom from the motherboard or the old hard drive. So that i can set that eeprom to a new drive and be back up and running. i tried the a-ff repair station and it said that it can't unlock a seagate drive at max security
