   I am trying to play an avi file but cannot see the picture. Says I do not have vids:mp43 decompressor. I assume I need to download a codec. Anyone know which one?

   That's Microsoft's Windows Media 7 or 8. Try to find the latest from Microsoft's site (look for Windows Media or something like that -- probably the worst site navigation-wise ever built, but you'll find it eventually). Here's an alternative source for download, although I don't know how old these are:
