Combining subtitles with avi files

    i had a mkv file and i was able to extract the video, audio and the subtitle files and then i was able to combine the audio and the video files so now im left with a video file and a subtitle file. How do i combine the subtitle file with the avi file

    I'm still a noobie myself, but I have an idea anyway..Are you just going to be watching this on your PC? I would assume you would be if it's an AVI. If you are, I'd say use VLC Media Player. Rename the subtitle file the same name as the avi file, and put them both in the same folder. Open the video in VLC and it should pull up the subtitles. If not, then while the movie is playing, go to File-Open file and check off the button for using a subtitle file, and browse to your sub file and use that. I'm only responding because I've been screwing with this stuff for a couple weeks now and I know it can be a pain.
