this is random and some of the files work. i would burn some aXXo movies and they work perfect. then others will not. all the files play back just fine on either divX or windows media. does aXXo play just on windows media? i know sometimes i have a codec problem and i just run it on divX (most likely due to coding for divX or something).

I wouldn't get too bogged down with whether the files are fake or not for now, being as some seem to play fine. The ones that play fine should convert fine.

I know I've burnt axxo movie's at some point but don't remember any problem's. If they were only going to play on WMP, none would burn. This is a real stretch but have you run any Registry cleaner that might have removed something it shouldn't have, That should affect all axxo though? Is this happening at a certain time of day; encoding is very labor intensive and could overheat thing's? CCleaner is an excellent utility for removing garbage, untick Cookie's if you don't want to log in again everywhere. You could run it if you haven't; should clean a little deeper than Window's. And Malware Bytes Anti Malware (MBAM) (update and full scan), both free. All a stretch though.

I personally stay away from Windows Media Player, i only use programs such as VLC player, and Media Player Classic. As to codecs, that could be a clue as virus/malware ridden files often lure people into applying codecs to further infect a machine. For many years i've sworn by the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack which handles virtually everything out there.

Something else to try is GSpot - this should flag any corrupted files ~ http://www.headbands.com/gspot

It's a good practice before burning these axxo DVD files to run them through through the picky DVDshrink first ..If shrink spits it out(errors), chances are you have a bad DVD structure..FWIW, I use CXD3,I just don't burn with it...ImgBurn is my go-to burning app..

im still having issues with the conversion process. i would run GSpot and it says the files are fine. the computer locks up during the video conversion process. its random during the video conversion.

i cant figure out why it is just some files and not all. some work great and convert no problems. others will just crash and burn. you might be on to something.

I guess the next thing to look into is malware etc as you've ruled out overheating issues (i think) so i can't think what else it can be other than malware/viruses.
