confusion with which phone can be unlocked

    i was told by a friend of mine that if i go down to downtown los angeles that i would be able to find shops that would be able to unlock almost any phone that i bring in so that i would be able to use then in almost any network. is this true or is the only phone that can be unlocked the nokia phones???

    All makes of phone can be unlocked but by different methods

    ok so then how would i go abut it?? lets say i unlocked cingulars "iphone" when it comes out. what do i do then?? do i just walk into a sprint store and say i ant to activate this phone because its unlocked?? i mean, unlocking is great but how do i get T-mobile to activate a helio phone knowwhatimsayin...

    GSM phones (GSM phones use sim cards) can be unlocked ie. Cingular, T-mobile. CDMA phones (Sprint, Verizon, Helio) are not compatible with GSM phones, unlocked or not.
