connecting two comps with LAN

    any one know anything about this. I knew how to do this but when I got my external hard drive I didnt need this and I completely forgot how I did it

    put a lan card in each
    connect using a crossover cable

    What hardware do you already have, and what operating system is on both machines. Yes stick a cross-over cable will get you physically connected , but you need to do a bit more than that if you are talking about printer and file sharing.

    windows Xp on one and 2000 on the other one. and I have everything I need because I had them connected before but that was like 2 years ago and I completely forgot how I did it
