"connection failure" in Nero crw-f1ze

I've tried everything and cannot get my new crw-f1 drive to burn. It does read. It is the master of the secondary ide channel as the instructions suggest. There is no other drive on the cable. I have loaded the version of nero that came with the drive. But each time it begins burning it gives me a communication failure. The burn process does begin as there is a visual ring of written data on the disks. I have tried only to burn at 16x, audio and data. I updated the firmware from 1.0b to 1.0d, with no change. It gives the failure as soon as it would seem to show the buffer level in nero. My thought is that the memory used for the buffer in the drive is bad, but I would like to explore more options. I am replacing my old burner so my machine is fully capable of burning cd's.

    any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Sorry that is a "communication failure" not connection failure....

Go ahead and close this one. Sure enough i switched the ide cable to the generic one that came with the drive and that fixed it....
