I have a whole season of a particular TV show sitting on my computer. Some are already in MPG format, but most or XviD. I was hoping to convert them all over to MPG format, keep file size low, quality decent, so that i could burn 2-3 Disc Season set. Whenever i go to do the conversion with TMPGEnc, its make the files take a DVD by themselves. Could somebody help me through this?

I had the same problem. Just go download the latest divx codec from www.divx.com, and it should work fine. It appears that a default install of windows (XP anyway) can play Xvid / DivX files, but i guess TMPGEnc doesnt like the "MS" codecs.

I guess I need to spell it out for you: no posting email addies allowed - it's in the forum rules that you apparently never read.

Let's remove it from our post shall we? :)

if you're using BitTorrent, look for a high file size, as that usually dictates quality.
You may not be using standard DVD file structure, or it might not even be standard DVD stream. What type of file(s) is it?

Search in Afterdawn will tell everyone how to do anything with your files already. If you do a search you will find several ways (already posted) to do just what you have in mind. It will also give you ideas an open up a whole new world. Search, Search. One mighty fine feature Afterdawn works hard to provide for us. People at Afterdawn do not answer questions that have already been answered. Whatever you want to know is here. Please don't spoil it for us serious people that really want to learn something. Thanks and good searching. arnold2

I have been tryin to get xidv format files to DVD, and i am using the newbie guide on this website.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm

It doesnt say how to (just say it for peeps that know wta they r doing) the "low resolution" option or "16:9" but i can only use low resolution to get the file down to below 4.7GB to fit on a DVD disc. Only problem wiv this of course is that most of my files have a higher resolution than this option supports. Since TMPGenc codec is all about quality, any advice on how i can stop the file being so big and b able to use the other options to get a higher resolution? (Some of my files are only 700mb DVDrip Xivd files yet they still seem to make a file that wont fit onto a 4.7GB disc aless i use low resolution.)

( I did try this lower resolution for one of my lower res files but the sound file didnt work so i used virtualdub to create a .wav file which worked. Also the video file that came out claimed to b only 30mins long on using all media players yet wen i pld the movie it was clearly the whole length...... to add to my worrys wen i went to DVD auth the file it made was longer, with like 3hours of nothing, so i hae id to cut this last bit of blackness out? ANY WAY OF PREVENTING THIS IN THE FUTURE?) My main aim is to get the files on to a 4.7GB disc wiv out loosing quality. Wat am i doing wrong?

Sorry for the long post just that i will not have the internet in a few days time so i want to get the process workin to it full potential before then.
And thxs alot in advance for any form of help.

    triggahap,

Give winAVI a try. I've tried every method imaginable over the past year and a half converting, re-converting, going round the twist etc., and this program makes it into a simple job.

Your 700MB films will be processed in more or less real-time and you'll be able to fit 2 or 3 on one DVD.

Sorry if I sound like a winAVI salesperson but it really is that good.

Try the demo version (just over £16.00 to buy) and you'll see what I mean.

    Cheers

From my experiences with WinAVI, I cannot recommend it.
I can however recommend VSO's DivxToDVD, it processes a whole movie in about an hour on my machine. The quality is some of the best I've seen, although it has a bit of trouble with onscreen text with anything besides black behind it. I have used it to do about 10 DVDs now for friends after being wary of it for a while, and now I wish I had used it sooner. It goes ahead and makes the VOBs and other DVD format files, so all you have to do is burn the output files to a DVD. The files will equal about two and a half gigabytes, so no worries about size.
