its Kung Fu Hustle and XXX State of The Union. I have been able to play both with video and sound however i can't use tmpg to convert them. When i use tmpg to browse to the file i wish to convert and select it and every time i do it says unable to open and/or unsupported file type.

Don't know about Kung Fu Hustle but i used dvdsanta for XXX State of The Union..if thet are both avi, divx, etc should work..vso divxtodvd should also work, this is free..works really well
one of XXX State of The Union on the net is missing about 10 min in the middle..when he jumps out of the shower it jumps to a car scene w/his old girl friend..it does'nt show how he finds a body & is being setup for a fall..or how he gets out of the mansion

I only use 2 programs when converting 2 avs and subs to dvd. Heres what i do and it works every time!
Before using these programs i had sync probs with audio and subs but no more probs now!

Install a program called VobSub as this will force the subtitles.
Install Canopus Procoder 2.This prog supports all files!!!!!
Make sure when you unpack the download that you have the 2 avis and the subs files in exactly the same folder.
There is no need to join these either as Canopus will do this for you.
Start Canopus Procoder and put a tick in the stitch box as this will join the files together,
then choose a target which will be dvd PAL or whatever you wish to do then click convert and choose a path for output
if you don't choose a path then the default path is my documents. Then hit convert! watch the first 5 mins you should
see the subtitles being tranconded with the movie, if so then unclick preview as this will slow down convertion.
    Its as Simple as that.

does anyone know if the process is different if the file is smaller than an actual movie. Im trying to burn some episodes of the simpsons to dvd. they are all avi files about 180mb in size. Do i have to join them first, then convert or convert them separately then burn them to dvd. I have 25 avi files im trying to burn. I tried burning one but i only was able to produce video without sound. And the subtitles were cut off at the bottom the screen. The picture didnt fit the screen at all. Any suggestions on how to do this are greatly appreciated

Ok fish, i'm gonna give you the simplest ways I know to do the things you want............

Don't try to fit 25, half hour episodes on 1 DVD is my first piece of advice. Here's a guide for DivXtoDVD that should help http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_divxtodvd_guide.cfm . You'll probably have to span those 25 eps. to at least 2 DVD's using DivxtoDVD. Hope that helps some.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_divxtodvd_guide.cfm that's the easy way.

That really depends on what program you're using to encode, what settings, what filters you're using, etc. More info would be helpful. :)

    malcdogg,

i used the method you provided and i was able to burn with video and sound. Only problem is that the video is cut off by the screen. It cuts off the video on all sides. Do i need to edit the video to make it smaller? What am i doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmmmm, when you play the DVD in your computer are the sides still cut off? Or is it just when you play it on your tv? I'm trying to think of why that would happen.

Ok, here's a snippet of info from a post by a video Guru called DJRumpy regarding another person who had a problem similar to yours where the DVD would play fine in the comp. but not the DVD player........

"It's just overscan. The TV automatically removes about 5% of the video image area. All TV's do this, widescreen or otherwise so you don't end up with black borders on the outside of your video."

I think this is what's happening to you only it's not just cutting out black borders, it's cutting off part of the pic. I don't know man, I don't know a simple fix for that. I wouldn't be supprised if someone else here does though. Personally I say try a different method then using divxtodvd, as i've had aspect ratio problems with it before also. The only reason I refer people to that guide is because it's easy and quick to do.

Do you have TMPGEnc? Here's a link to a trial version of TMPGEnc Xpress http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/te3xp.html that's a 14day trial of it. Here's a guide for it http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/55/59/ it's very user friendly. And hopefully it will solve your problems. If not, post back here and hopefully someone who knows more about your problem will see your post and help.

hi people, new here, spent ages trying to work out how to burn Divx files as a DVD and am also wondering if it should be taking so long to convert the file, Im using Super DVD creater 8.0, i have the conversion engine speed set halfway between max speed/best quality. the original file is just under 700MB.
as it is the first time i have used the program and im kinda going on trial and error i havent changed any settings other than PAL/NTSC and the aspect ratio

bassicly i am wondering if there are faster ways of converting or am i gonna be in for the long haul every time i want to durn a Divx as a DVD?

    thanks

oh yeh 4got to mention the original file and the working folder are on differant hard drives, would this make much diff? i imagine it would be faster if they where on the same hardisk? or not much diff?

    hi bread 2001

You might want to try a progran called WinAVI which will convert a full frame 2 hour DivX movie into DVD in approx. 90 minutes.
Also, it's better to have the file that's being read on a seperate drive from the one that's being written to.

    Cheers

PS: There's a free trial of WinAVI so you'll know what you're getting.

@Bread2001, http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_divxtodvd_guide.cfm . That's a free program called DivxtoDVD. Using it on a standard length, Divx movie with my 3ghz P4, 512mb ram, it takes about 1 hour to convert to DVD files.

Honestly unless a person is using an encoder like CCE, Procoder, or TmpgEnc, I see no reason why the conversion should take so long.

I've used the vso_divxtodvd guide which is great (fast encode, good quality, sooo easy).

The only problem I see is DivxToDvd doesn't support subtitles. Is there an easy way to add subtitles to the final DVD??

    Thanks!!

PS: I read cucusoft support subtitles, but I read about many problems trying to get it working.
