Ive tried both vso divx to dvd , and winavi video converter and i would have to advise you on using winavi. It takes about 45min to convert a xvid file into a playable dvd(vob bup)were as it took me 4 hrs to convert it with divx to dvd. Im using a pentium 4 with 768 ram. hope this helps. O by the way if you do choose to use winavi after converting the file change the folder name it creates from DISC_O to VIDEO_TS and then burn.

Arnold.... It converted great however. I have multiple things to fit on one disc. Norm. I would convert with the Tmpg then use the author to make my own disc with images what have you. How can i fit these sessions onto one disc? I am using Nero and i am wondering if i can create new folders with in Video TS? I am going to mess around a bit. Let me know if you have any info.

Hi, just a quick note, we just optimized a little bit divxtodvd and the version 1.99.23 is faster ( up to 35% ) , I remind too than the trial version is slower than the registered one. Next developments planned will optimized the speed, but according a survey, our users prefer the extra functionnalities and quality than pure speed. BUT we will do some optimizations for sure in the future.

Hi, I'm a complete noob here. I've been following the Xvid-to-DVD guide (and I still intend on following it through even though it may be an older method; the few other methods I've tried have screwed me over in one way or another), but I'm stuck at the video conversion. TMPGEnc always says:

File "long long file name.avi" can not open, or unsupported.

Can anyone help me with this?

    AVICodec had:

    File : 699 MB (699 MB), duration: 1:41:01, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 46 %
    Video : 608 MB, 842 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 608*336 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 90 MB, 125 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

Now I don't think that's really relevant, but whatever works.

I've tried opening the file with VirtualDub to convert the audio stream, but it's denied this file, too. DivXtoDVD converts it into chaptered .vob files, but that's not what I want. I want a MPEG2 file that I can later chapter off.

...so if anybody could help me with the conversion, I'd greatly appreciate it. And if this should be in a separate thread, just tell me.

    Thanks so much.

Thanks, but Win AVI Converter placed a really annoying message on top of the entire video, and it was really distracting and annoying. Video Converter only did five minutes of the movie.

But thanks anyhow. I'm thinking I'll post this issue as a separate thread. Once again, thank you.

with divxtodvd you can define the chapters you want from the treeview.
or I don't understand what you mean by chapter later...

    Hi mofofox3
When using TMPGEnc 3_0 XPress to convert several short mpg or avi check the Output clips separately, when authoring TMPGEnc DVD Author 1_6 I can make a menu for each clip added to the project( accidently found the lil boxes you put the pic in will move for a second or two) Depending on how large your clips are. Like to use Nero Recode as well to Burn the completion. going to give TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO a try TMPGEnc new program. Thinking the out come depends on the quality of the file you start with, I have had some real stinkers. I am not good at this stuff. I have to depend on the program and advice of the kind people at afterdawn. I am proud just to make a DVD you can view on a stand alone player. Have to leave the sophisticated stuff to gurus. You want fast and quality look at Canopus ProCode2 according to the information at their site. All depends on what you want to do. fast quality or both. sure hope some of this helps, it is just some of the things I do.

I've has a snout through the last few months postings and couldn't see anything similar to my audio issue ...

Using DivXtoDVD v1.99.14(.34) I occasionally get an audio track which plays 'rapidly', sounding 10 or so times faster whilst the video runs smoothly. Thus audio component is useless.

I've been trying to fault find / look for patterns to no avail .... but tonight found a beauty.

Have two 700mb'ish .AVI files, namely a 1st half and a 2nd half of a film. Both .AVI files play audio tracks play speldidly in and WinAmp, and with NeroShowTime2.

DivXtoDVD processed both fine and happily burnt to DVD.

Playing DVD the first title's audio is in fastplay, but the second title's audio plays perfectly.

DivXtoDVD reports both .AVI files having identical characteristics; namely

    mpeg4 608x272 25 FPS
    en-ac3 48000Hz 5:1 256 kb/s

Am using default settings throughout DivXtoDVD, except have seelcted FORCE-PAL. Any suggestions from you chaps on how to troubleshoot this one ?

Forgot to mention, Gspot reckons all is fine (and data on both .AVIs are identical). Audio plays ok in GSpot.

Scratching at straws, so I've just scored latest Avi2DVD from SOFTWARE page, and will try it ans see.

I already have BitLord, but I don't get what you're trying to say here. Are you saying that I can DL the full program there? (It'd be illegal, o' course, but I still have to ask.) Or are you saying that I can get different versions of my movie there?

DivXtoDVD only defines chapters by equal time intervals, right? If there's a way to separately create each chapter independent to the others, I'd like to know.

And by chaptering later, I mean that I want to convert it to MPEG first, then see if I can create the chapters while I'm authoring the dvd or something.

Ah. I just clicked on the links, and now I understand.

    Naughty, naughty. :p

But alas, that still doesn't solve my issue of creating chapters. If there were a way to do it with .vob files (so I could keep the video quality), I'd do it. But since there isn't (at least not to my knowledge), I'll have to stick to mpeg format.

    So any suggestions on that?

no you can define as many chapters ( up to 99 I think ) you want with divxtodvd and when you want.
Load the file you want to convert, then use the treeview to see the chapters, then you can add, edit, delete new or existing chapters.
For sure you need to do that BEFORE encoding to vob / ifo, We don't have the option to define chapters after the conversion. And if you need more help you can contact the VSO support for that.

Oh... thanks a lot, then. That certainly gets rid of a lot of issues. Again, thanks. Now all I need to learn how to do is author the DVD correctly. I'm guessing I ask 'bout that stuff in another section?

One last time, I have to thank you guys.

All you have to do is convert the files one at a time and then use DVDShrink in the reauthor mode and turn them into an ISO file and burn with your fav burning program-easy, huh?
