thats the problem i dont know if i should be converting to NTSC or Pal.
Is it dependant on the source file? Is there a way to find out what the source file is? Most of them are saying 25fps but a couple of them displayed 29.8fps. This is where i am having the problem when converting them , i end up with jerky movies, picture quality is fine but the action is either slow and jerky or normal speed with a few fast frames every few seconds, its driving me mad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Brian.

the basic difference between PAL and NTSC are :
    1 ) the resolution
2 ) the frame rate PAL is 25fps NTSC is 29,97 fps.

with divxtodvd you can see the detected format and resolution ( just press the information tree node )

    Hello all,
I am new to the whole converting of movies from .avi to dvd vobs. I used super dvd creator 8 to take my .avi movie and it created just one vob file. The file plays fine using divx 6.0 However the movie plays with no sound. My setting on super dvd creator 8 were I had dvd selected as my output format. My image ratio set to 16:9. The source file that I added has sound when I previewed it. Then I set the mpeg file converter setting to highest quality. Output NTSC/PAL was set to NTSC with split size set to not split. Then I just clicked start and 10 hours later I get just on vob file with no sound. What did I do wrong or am I missing something stupid.

    Thanks,
    Jason

I took a Xvid video and converted it to mpeg-2, but it only has black frames. Sounds like the same problem Rotary had in the wery begining of this thread. But I can't seem to be albe to fix it.
I use the DVD template, and I have rememberd to select "System (audio+video)"

    Anybody who can help?

Is there a loss of quality when converting avi to mpeg2 using TMPGEnc then using Nero Vision to create a DVD?

well there's a lot i can tell you.one according to new laws you cant post pirated related things but ok first you need a modchip on your xbox or a flip top with boot cd(if you dont have this dont bother)if you do you need to convert it to dvd.then you burn at 4x or less.

Anybody know if there was an earlier version of the VSO program that's not for only Win XP, 2000, etc? I'd like to try it on my Win98 machine. I'm afraid if I put VSO on my XP machine, Nero will stop working. I hd this happen and it caused me months of grief and drove me to buy the fitst machine in the first place.

Speed is not necessarily the first consideration, if that's the main issue. I have Tempgenc.

BTW, I'm coming to the conclusion that part of my problems may be that my original animation I was testing with may just not be as smooth as I thought, but I definitely think part of the solution is to use a different burning/encoding program -- at least for Xvids. When I encoded with tempgenc and then imported into Nerovision 3, could see it was not as smooth. That's why I suspect it's Nero - that and what other people have said. But I'd rather not spend more money on yet more software to test taht theory. I do have an older version of myDVD on the old 'puter, but at the moment, it doesn't seem to recognize the older burner I used to use with it (I think I had to reload the program once and it probably lost a patch somewhere).

Also - am I mistaken, or can you not encode FROM AVI to DVD using Gordian Knot?

Hi all, ive downloaded an avi file at a 16:9 ratio. I want to burn it to dvd, however TMPg keeps altering the aspect ratio and makes it look stretched. How do i fix this. Also when i try to convert using SpruceUp it gets to 90% and i am faced with an error message. I think this may be because the output file from TMPg is bigger than 4GB, is there any software like SpruceUp that can deal with dvd9 sized files? ANy ideas.

    HI.

I have been converting my favorite DivX downloads to DVD-R for a long time.
I always use TMPGencoder, then DVDLab Pro to join the subtititles and auth the DVD proyect. But now I have a problem, there is only one movie that I can not convert :(

When loading the DivX avi file in the TMPGencoder all I have got is a black screen with no video neither audio. No matter how I change the settings in TMPGencoder (I have been using it a coupple years) I always get a black screen and no audio.

Also the DivX avi file reports it self inside the TMPGencoder as 244 mins. but the movie is about 100 mins.

I have updated all my DivX codecs, but the problem remains the same.
I use GSpot to check my installed codecs and it looks fine.
What can I do? Any Ideas?

    Thank you.
    Greet's from Mexico!

well i you get divxtodvd that may help.you install it then you add a movie file to the list of what you want converted then go to burn settings and burn at 4x if your dvd-r is 8x and then there should be a tab saying chapters and it will ask when to put a chapter every so often

Here is one way to do that very simple. worked great for me :

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_convertxtodvd_guide.cfm

If you prefer there are many other ways here:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/

an after you find the way you prefer you can always ask or look at that particular
forum string for more in depth explanation if there is something else you want to
know or steps you might have trouble with.
There are to many ways a AVI file can be put together to just
    have one way to convert.

    May want to check out:
    AVIcodec v1.2 Build 110
AVIcodec is a nice little tool for identifying what codecs you need in order to play your multimedia files. Program supports MPEG-1/2, AVI, Ogg, ASF, WMV, etc formats.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/
can tell you how your AVI file was packed.

Lots of great programs to help you here:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/

It is always an adventure converting files.

    Hang.
