You have come to the right place for the information you want.

Did you do a search yet?

Thinking it has been posted already. It took me just a little time
to learn they rarely double post answers.

This is the greatest support and information site I have found
    on the Internet.

look at the bottom of this page and click on 1 ( first page )

I hope this might help a few of you out with your converting and burning problems, but please keep in mind, the following guide uses the programs I prefer to use and consider to be the best yet (IMHO).

    CONVERTING:
After downloading and de-rarring a file, I then load MAINCONCEPT Converter to convert the divx, xvid, avi file to MPEG2 (DVD Compliant).

    Step 1:
    SINGLE FILE:
    Load your file.
Change the settings to DVD conversion and the audio to Layer 2 if not already set.
    Hit CONVERT button.
Takes on average around 1½ hours with near no loss of quality.

2 x FILES THAT MAKE A SINGLE MOVIE:
Exactly the same as a single file BUT before hitting CONVERT, click the 'DETAILS' button and then the 'ADVANCED' button.
    Click 'OK' twice.
Then click the top left 'FILE' button and ADD TO BATCH.
Load second part of movie (eg: moviecd2.avi)
Change settings to same as first file and click 'DETAILS' then 'ADVANCED' again.
Click 'OK' twice as before and ADD TO BATCH.

You should now have 2 files in your BATCH LIST (eg: moviecd1.avi & moviecd2.avi)

Check the box so the output file will be saved as ONE FILE and name it. CLICK CONVERT.
    =======================================

    DVD AUTHORING:
For this I prefer Tmpgenc for a quick menu but mostly I use DVDLAB PRO.

    DVDLAB PRO (DVDLP):
Import your converted movie.mpg file and DVDLP will automatically DEMUX the Video & Audio.
When completed, drag your Video file into the movie screen and set your chapters.
With the Audio, I usually transcode it into DOLBY with the Tmpgenc AC3 Plugin. I do this as I'm doing the chapters as both can take a little while.
Once the Chapters have completed, I start working on my Menu with wallpaper pics from GOOGLE as a background.
Add my chapter thumbnails while they appear in the list and add Audio to the Movie screen once transcoding is finished.

Click COMPILE and alter any output settings if need be.
    =======================================================

    WRITING THE DVD FILES:

My preference is either DVD SANTA or the DVD WRITING TOOL of TMPGENC.
You can use NERO but that's up to you :)

Browse to your folder where you complied the movie and select all the files inside the VIDEO_TS folder.
    BURN!!!
    =======================================================

    WHAT IF:

Q: The output file is too big to fit on a 4.7GB disc?
A: Load DVD SHRINK 3.2 and click "OPEN FILES". Browse toy our output folder and select the folder VIDEO_TS. DVD Shrink will then shrink the movie down to fit on a 4.7GB disc.

You can also PM me if you need further assistance and I'll reply when possible. Good luck!

I never tried the DVDLP burner to be honest.
How does it compare to the others?
Just stick with what i know works.

I normally just use DVDLP for authoring and compiling :)

it's not that hard man, when you compile your dvd you can select auto record so it records directly after creating the folder on the hard disc. or you don't select it, than you go to project..burn dvd and you select the folder. it gives you the same result like nero or other programs. but what is cool is you put it and you go, than you return to see it done on the dvd. it copy 2 layers too if you need it.

about the sound how you encode it into dolby..can you tell me how you do it???

    thanx

    Thanks mate.

I know it's not hard to do but just never used it that's all.
I'll give it a go tonight as I'm converting Fastest Indian & BMH2

To convert Audio into AC3 Dolby, download the Tmpgenc AC3 Plugin.
DVDLP automatically detects it and you just need to select the AC3 transcoder from the Dropdown or along and Assets Window.

    Click your movie.mpa file.
    Click AC3 transcode
Select output destination (I usually leave this set at default)
Click Transcode or OK (can't remember exactly)
Wait for it to finish :)

Drag your AC3 audio to your movie window.
If you have loads of space on the disc, you could drag BOTH types of Audio (Stereo & Dolby).
Add subs (if you have them)
    Compile.............

Wanna know how to convert to Dolby 5.1 & 6.1 Surround Sound?
Takes more time but worth it and you need 2 more programs to do it PLUS, you need to convert the Audio directly from the AVI file BEFORE you convert it.

I don't know if there's another thread for this or not though :S

    Hey there.

You need to convert it to DVD format before you burn it.
    See my tutorial above :)

hey yo nyla...you have alot of stuff to do before you watch it. you have to start from zero like i saw in your message:)

first forget the cd you need a dvd to watch it..so if you don't have dvd burner you need one if you looking forward to watch dvd movie and not vcd movie, than some programs like mainconcept, etc

hi fantazar, i tried the ac3 converter in dvdlab pro, but when i watch it on tv it sound the same like the stereo, there is no difference between them, you have idea???

    thanx

Ive downloaded a few TV episodes that are .avi and I want to convert them to DVD.
Whats the best program for the job, dvdSanta or ConvertXtoDVD?
Also since the episodes are NTSC and im from a PAL region what should I set the TV format to? By the way my TV and DVD player support NTSC so should I leave it on NTSC so I dont lose quality and dont have sync problems?

    Thank you!

PALToNTSC : Are you hooked up to a Dolby decoder?

SICK: Leave it as is (in NTSC). You have a multizone player and T.V so why chage it :)
I would use MainConcept myself but it's up to you. Try out DVD Santa, it's also a good converter.

yes but with convertXtoDVD you will be able to create a nice menu very easily. I put 5 to 8 episodes per DVD with ConvertXtoDVD, you can force to Pal if you want it won't decrease the quality

I've been using Nero express for a while now but lately have had problems with sound lagging behind the video. Does anyone know how to fix that? Should I just get a new divx-->dvd program and if so... which one?

How does the sound lag? Is it in synch at first and gets progressively worse, or is it lagging behind at a constant rate?

I'm not totally sure, but I think it has something to do with the way the audio is compressed in an AVI file.

I don't know how Nero works (I've never used it), so I can't tell you what exactly to do, but I've got a basic idea.

Get AVIcodec and see what type of audio format your AVI file has. If it's an AC3 (which I'm guessing it is), then you'll want to look here:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/extract_ac3_from_avi.cfm

    Hope that helps.
