TMPGEnc is very good but also very slow and, in my opinion. I would rate MainConcept definitely higher in speed and in quality.

yeah that's true Tmpgenc is slow compare to mainconcept, i think cuz in the options 2 past encoding is selected, u can change it if u want or have a look on the options.

sometimes i use mainconcept, it depend on the files.

I have one other question related to this. I make a DVD that goes with my school's yearbook and use Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere to edit video files on my computer, but I would like to have some of the kids create parts of the DVD at school without having to buy numerous licenses. Does anyone know how the quality that Windows Movie Maker produces avis compares to software such as pinnacle studio, adobe and vegas? I am not really concerned about advanced filters or anything, mainly just cutting, cropping and adding titles.

Give ConvertXtoDVD a look, the trial will leave a watermark in your video but it's fast with excellent quality and contains all you will ever need. Even has simple menus.

Depending on the quality of your original files, you should be able to fit 3-4 1 hour episodes or 6-8 1/2 hour episodes on a regular DVD. ConvertXtoDVD is fast and gives excellent quality. Also, very easy to use; just add your files and a blank DVD and all the work is done for you. WinAvi is probably the fastest I know of but has no menues and gives a bit less quality, IMO. If you want an encoding program, I understand that CCE Basic is very fast but you will need an Authoring program with it and any quality increase would probably be very minor. I use MainConcept and I see very little difference in quality between it and ConvertXtoDVD.

I don't know that you can tell how many episodes you can fit on a DVD except by personal preference. You can add more than I mentioned but quality will definitely suffer or you could buy a player that will play them as data and then you could add as many as will fit on a blank DVD. Again, no menu, maybe an index, not sure and no one else would be able to play them without a proper player.

ConvertXtoDVD supports RMVB and WinAvi may as well. As to your first question, no idea, I would assume you would rip it to your HD and then convert it, check out WinAvi or AVS Video Converter but why?

hey mistycat thx for ur help. i am using ConvertXtoDVD and i realised u can also convert OGM files to dvd..which suits me better. however, there is one problem which i shouldn't be discussing in this forum but i hope u can help.

when i add up the ogm on ConvertXtoDVD to convert to dvd...there are 2 audio streams as it should be..but there are no subtitles listed. i am quite sure there are subtitles cos when i watch it on media player classic i can view them in japanese or english...but on ConvertXtoDVD it doesn't show...so is there something wrong with my computer or what?

ConvertXToDVD does not support completely OGM movie files.
We're working on it, for a future CxD release.

hmm i having a problem with ConvertXtoDVD. i have set the chapter time for 15 mins...so 1 chapter is of 15 mins. however, after i convert, when i press the "next" button when watching the dvd...it goes straight to like 10 secs b4 the ending of the episode.

i am not exactly very bothered by the problem but i just wanted to know if anyone else is having that problem too and why i am having this problem?

i believe it must be cos...as said earlier..ConvertXtoDVD doesn't support OGM files completely.
